Atomic Mass Games has shown off a pair of upcoming Affiliation Packs for the Defenders and the Criminal Syndicate.
Coming later this Summer the Defenders and Criminal Syndicate are getting new Affiliation Packs. Atomic Mass Games actually previewed which characters are in them a couple weeks ago but I wanted to take a moment and revisit them. So let’s start with the Defenders.
The Defenders Affiliation Pack

“From battling mystical and supernatural threats, the Defenders are powerful outsiders who rally together to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Doctor Strange, Wong, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have been repackaged for players to easily start their collections. Coming soon!”
This Affiliation Pack is actually loaded with five characters. Doctor Strange and Wong were in a combo pack together previous. The same is true for Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The outlier is that this pack also comes with Daredevil, too. This is a classic line-up for the Defenders. Let’s just do some quick math to figure the Threat Level in this box as well.
Doctor Strange – 5
Wong – 2
Daredevil – 4
Luke Cage – 3
Iron Fist – 3
Total Threat: 17
So yeah, that’s a max of 17 Threat in the box and it comes with a few potent Threat Level 3s in there. If you want to expand this to a full 10 character roster I’ve got some suggestions…
Best Way To Grow The Defenders?
Personally, I’m really glad to see AMG shifting to these new Affiliation packs and specifically setup in this format. These are all characters from one Affiliation and you basically have a “pick-up and play” team right here. If you want a longer breakdown of the Defenders, Ben wrote up a pretty exhaustive article on his thoughts about them. It’s also worth mentioning that Iron Fist, Doctor Strange, and Wong are also part of the Midnight Sons Affiliation which recently got an Affiliation Pack, too.
In fact, the only character in the Midnight Sons box that isn’t a Defender is Doctor Voodoo. Realistically, if you wanted a really solid roster that would let you dip into either Midnight Sons or Defenders, you could just get both boxes. They compliment each other really well. And if you wanted a full roster of 10 characters snag Immortal Hulk and you’re actually covered since he’s in BOTH!
Again, as a player and collector, I think these packs are great for quickly assembling a team roster for an Affiliation (or two in this case). For new players, this makes list building and collecting so much easier. Between the Defenders, Midnight Sons, and the Immortal Hulk character pack, that’s a real solid roster that can switch between two Affiliations. It’s also going to end up being cheaper than it was previously to collect them all. What’s not to like?

The Criminal Syndicate Affiliation Pack
via Atomic Mass Games (facebook)
“From notorious masterminds, underworld-controlling criminals, and skilled hitmen, this Affiliation Pack repackages Marvel: Crisis Protocol’s infamous characters, Kingpin, Hood, Bullseye, and M.O.D.O.K. Coming soon!”
If you were wondering where Bullseye went (because he used to be in a pack with Daredevil from above) here’s the answer. The Criminal Syndicate is also getting their own Affiliation Pack. It technically comes with 4 characters but Hood has a transformation into a different miniature…so there are five minis in the box. Again, let’s do a quick threat breakdown for them, too.
Kingpin – 4
Hood – 3
Bullseye – 2
M.O.D.O.K. – 5
Total Threat: 14
While this Affiliation Pack isn’t quite as loaded as the Defenders it’s still got good options in there. That said, expansion for the Criminal Syndicate is wide open.
A Criminal Empire
I think there’s a couple of really easy additions to fill out a Criminal Syndicate roster. An easy pick-up is the Cabal Affiliation Pack to start.
Why this Pack when the only cross over from Cabal to Criminal Syndicate is Crossbones? That’s so you can switch-hit to playing Cabal if you need to. All of the Criminal Syndicate Characters are also Cabal members. So it’s an easy swap. That would put your Roster at 8 characters and you only need to round it out with two more so you can flex. And I know just the pack for that…
Abomination & The Wrecking Crew bring options for both sides to the table. That would put you at a pretty good split for either Cabal or Criminal Syndicate in your Roster. This works because more than half of the Roster is used in either Affiliation! Oh and there’s also one other route you can go…
Spider-Man Is A Menace!
If you wanted to go a slightly different route there’s also the Spider-Foes option. Now for this one you’d have to get the Electro/Sandman/Shocker/Vulture box. All of them are part of the Criminal Syndicate as well. However, only Kingpin is part of the Spider-Foes from the Criminal Syndicate box. That said, the actual Spider-Foes box would be a good pick-up to round out that part of the roster.
While you can’t squeeze all 12 characters from the three boxes into a single roster you’ve got options. I guess the point here is that you’ve got plenty of room to work with and again, it’s never been simpler to get a roster together in Marvel: Crisis Protocol thanks to these Affiliation Packs.
Having said all that, keep an eye out for these new Affiliation Packs to hit shelves later this Summer!
It’s a great time to jump into Marvel: Crisis Protocol with these new Affiliation Packs.
