Free RPG day is this Saturday, and it’s looking to be an extra spicy one this year. Paizo has two amazing offerings from Pathfinder and Starfinder.
The world might be on fire, but you know what, so are the offerings at this year’s Free RPG Day. We had a preview of the whole shebang a while back, but as the day draws nigh – and it is well nigh at this point, since it is this coming Saturday, June 21st – the free offerings reveal themselves in greater detail. Which, you know, great for everyone.
In the case of Paizo, there are two different options. There’s a Starfinder adventure for new players, which will be perfect for the coming new edition and anyone curious about Starfinding. It’ll only need a 1st level character. But Pathfinder has a more refined offering – a 10th level adventure that ends in an iconic showdown while showing off some of the system’s cool new dragons.
Paizo On Free RPG Day – Space Pirates, Then A Dragon
First up, the Starfinder adventure, Battle for Nova Rush. This adventure has it all. It’s a platonic ideal of what Starfinder can be like. Because you start as prisoners of a nefarious space pirate captain. Already an incredible start.
But then the ship comes under fire by the Corpse Fleet, which is exactly what you think it is. An unead horde, but with like battleships and dreadnoughts. It’s terrifying and I absolutely love it. While you’re under attack, of course, there is a chance to escape captivity. Space pirates, undead, virtual intelligences, starships, it really is the whole Starfinder experience.
And then we have the Pathfinder offering. This one is a little more of an advanced option, because it wants you to jump in with a Pathfinder character at level 10. And Pathfinder 2E offers many things, but a paucity of character abilities/meaningful choices to make as you level up is not one of them. So if you’re going to play this adventure on the day, you might want a pregen.
In fact, for this adventure, specifically, you’ll want one because it not only makes your job easier, but you also will play as one of four “dragon-blooded” heroes. These are heroes who have a special connection to the dragon in question as a part of their lineage:
“The Scourge of Sheerleaf is a short adventure for 10th-level characters where you take on the role of one of four unique dragonblood characters—people who have special abilities in their lineage granted by a powerful connection to a type of dragon. This adventure sets the dragonblood heroes on a mission to defeat a powerful dragon and save the village he’s been tormenting! The four pregenerated characters provide all the information needed to jump right into this Free RPG Day adventure; all you need are your dice and your friends!”
