Throughout the Clone Wars, there was no sight more elegant or more sinister than Count Dooku’s very own Solar Sailer.

You do not, in fact, have to hand it to the Separatists, no matter what anyone might tell you. But, Count Dooku’s heavily modified Punworcca 116-class interstellar sloop cut a mean figure across the battlefields of the Clone Wars. It was from the bridge of this vessel that the Count, whom some might better know as Darth Tyranus, planned and schemed with his elusive master, Darth Sidious. From this ship, a Galactic Empire was plotted in secret.

But where does it come from? And how did it come to be in possession of a Dark Lord of the Sith? The answer lies on Geonosis.

Count Dooku’s Solar Sailer – Design and Capabilities

Count Dooku’s Solar Sailer was a custom modeled space yacht, built from the framework of some of the Huppla Pasa Tisc Shipwrights Collective’s finest work; the Punworcca 116-class sloop. Originally designed as a run of the mill luxury vessel, the Solar Sailer meant for Count Dooku was a modified version, constructed with Geonosian engineering and old, pre-Repulic Gree technology.

And if there is one thing about the craft that defines it more than anything else, it is the intricate solar sail. The sail itself was an ancient Gree artifact that Dooku had acquired in his travels. It had many unique properties, the first of which was that it had no discernible power source. This advantage along made it extremely difficult to track.

And the exotic matter of the sail reflected light across the spectrums, including otherwise-undetectable supralight emissions, allowing it to travel faster and more nimbly than other solar sails. In fact, many Geonosians came to believe that Dook’s ship flew by little more than magic itself.

Alongside the special sail, Count Dooku’s Solar Sailer boasted an array of 84 narrow-beam tractor-repulser eitters along its bow prongs. And its hull, made of rare, heavy metals from Geonosia, is more than capable of withstanding heavy firepower, as well as being able to accommodate the Count’s every needs.

A History Of Elegance, Escape, And Clone Wars

The solar sailer was originally presented to Count Dooku as a gift bby none other than Poggle the Lesser, who was pleased to put his team of shipwrights to work figuring out what to do with the semi-mythic solar sail delivered to them. The result was Dooku’s ship – a vessel nimble and feared, though it was barely armed.

During the beginning of the Clone Wars, Count Dooku was very nearly destroyed on his very own vessel, when the Jedi Grand Master, Yoda attacked him. It also carried Dooku away from the Battle of Geonosis when things started to take a turn for Darth Tyranus.

The solar sailer was seen throughout the Clone Wars, often appearing in a system before the battle broke out. And usually, where Count Dooku was involved, it ended with the Count fleeing aboard his Solar Sailer. This was perhaps especially noteworthy because Dooku required nobody other than himself – a fact which many of his allies would become aware of much too late. But that is a story for another time.

May the Force be with you!
