Wizards of the Coast announced two new Magic: The Gathering sets as well as previewed cards from the Avatar: The Last Airbender booster set at the MagicCon: Las Vegas Preview Panel.
WotC just set the 2026 Magic: The Gathering release cycle in motion with the announcement of their first two sets for next year, which had previously been hinted at back in 2024 (see “2026 ‘Magic: The Gathering’ Sets“). For the first set of 2026, Magic will return to the fan favorite plane of Lorwyn (see “‘Lorwyn’“) for Lorwyn Eclipsed. This set will highlight the duality of the plane, as the light and dark of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor merge. It will release on January 26, 2026.
The second set of 2026 will involve a visit to the Strixhaven School of Mages (see “‘Strixhaven: School of Mages’“) with Secrets of Strixhaven. No information was provided about an official street date, thus far. WotC also previewed the Avatar Aang card at this event from the Avatar: The Last Airbender booster set (see below). Cards from the new set feature “bending” skills as keywords for mechanics as well as flip cards. Also, Ally makes a return as a creature type in this set.
