Warhammer 40K: Darktide expanded its roster this week, with the Arbites DLC, a new class all about having a cool dog.

The Adeptus Arbites should be familiar to anyone who’s dug even just a little past the Space Marine-strewn surface of Warhammer 40K’s lore. If you’ve ever messed around in Necromunda or Rogue Trader, or played any of the tabletop RPGs (especially the way RPG players tend to be), you’re doubtless familiar with the Adeptus Arbites—a loving sendup of the law in the vein of Judge Dredd. They are future megacops and in the Arbites DLC for Darktide, they come with an immortal cyber-mastiff that really is man’s best friend.

Warhammer 40K: The Arbites DLC – Available Now

Here we go folks, it’s time for the first big new class for Warhamer 40K: Darktide. It’s been a long time coming. If you’ve been playing the game since launch (or even off and on for a while), you know that the game went through a sort of journey of discovery. After launch, the devs refined and changed the game—if all you ever had was the early days to go by, you’d be surprised how much has changed, including a recent rework of weapons and blessings and end-game progress.

But now, at last, we get a new expansion. And what an expansion. An Arbitrator of the Adeptus Arbites is a perfect candidate for the DLC here—they fit with the general theme of Darktide. You’re not hardcore Imperial Soldiers, you’re, famously, the Rejects. You’re the last, desperate hope for Tertium against a rising tide of darkness and heresy.

And having one of the Arbites’ Arbitrators (and their cyber-mastiff companions) feels very much in line with the “well it’s all gone horribly awry” vibes that Darktide brings to the function.

“The Adeptus Arbites enforce the Lex Imperialis – the Imperial Law. The institution’s most visible officers, known as Arbitrators, are utterly unforgiving of those who dare transgress the Law. They are swift to unleash brutal punishment upon those guilty of threatening the Imperium’s working, and no one is beyond their long reach.

They have been present on Tertium for at least as long as Inquisitor Grendyl’s forces, investigating anomalies in the planet’s Tithe offerings.

The situation has grown so grave that Marshall Vortern has decided that the long arm of the Imperial Lex needs to take a firmer grasp of the situation.”

The new Arbitrator class is not ONLY about having a good dog. They also have a lot of grenades and explosive abilities that can help with managing crowds, but let’s be honest, the dog is one of the main appeals. Here’s how it works:

“The Arbitrator’s loyal companion and best friend will join you in the slaying of lawbreakers and other scum. After you’re finished with customizing its name and looks, you’ll soon have it fighting alongside you. The Cyber-Mastiff has its own Passive target selection, which it will use to help you against anything that comes too close. You can also command it to attack a specific target, which will override any behaviour of its own. To command your Mastiff, you simply double-tap your Tag Input on any enemy that is eligible to be Tagged.”

It’ll pounce humanoid enemies and knock them to the ground. Larger enemies, your mastiff will simply deal damage and stagger to, but that’s going to set you up for a devastating followup attack. You can find the full details on the class below!

Time to bring some law (grenades) and order (more, different grenades) to Tertium
