The Idoneth Deepkin are getting a pair of potent Armies of Renown you can use with their new battletome for Age of Sigmar.
The tides are rising and the Idoneth Deepkin are riding high. They have a new battletome on the way an inside you’ll find new Armies of Renown to try out. Let’s take a gander at two of them below!
“The book also contains two new Armies of Renown, which give you alternate ways to use your collection on the tabletop. One is centered on King Volturnos, ruler of the Ionrach enclave, whereas the other is focused on a summoned Eidolon and their allies who guard the spirit-reefs.”
Idoneth Deepkin Army of Renown – Wardens of the Chorrileum
First up, we have the Wardens of the Chorrileum. This particular Army of Renown revolves around a single Eidolon of Mathlann leading a combined force of Isharann, Namarti, and Akhelian Infantry. The real trick for this army is it’s deployment shenanigans. You’ll want to keep your Eidolon in reserve and then build up your special chorrileum spirit points as fast as possible.
Once you’ve gotten 3 points you can Call For The Tsunami and unleash the power of your Eidolon right into the enemy’s face!
And yes, it does mean ANYWHERE. You can even deploy them right into combat with the enemy! What’s really nasty is you can then use their innate abilities to use Wrath of Mathlann and fight twice. The second round of attacks does have the strike-last penalty but that’s still a gnarly tidal wave of pain.
Now, you’re going to want to sling spells to try and build up those points. The good news is you’ll have lots of opportunities to do that with these spell options.
“Essence of the Chorrileum allows you to skim some soul stuff off the top to revive D6 Namarti in a unit of Thralls or Reavers, or Heal (D3) on any other unit, while Slipstream lets you move a unit up to D6” as long as you stay out of combat range. These tenacious wardens can also summon the Incarnate of the Deep, so you can have two wave-based terrors running rampant. “
Idoneth Deepkin Army of Renown – First Phalanx of Ionrach
The second Army of Renown is called the First Phalanx of Ionrach and is led by Volturnos, High King of the Deep. He’s the general by default and comes with permanent Strike-first which is always useful. He’s also got the Teachings of Asydrazor to pass on to his disciples.
During each of your hero phases you’ll gain D3 asydrazor points to spend. These can be used on one of three different abilities:
The one power that isn’t listed is The Sword of Gwynnar which gives Strike-first to a unit. All three of these “teachings” seem very useful for the Idoneth Deepkin in this particular Army of Renown. There’s also a few other options for this Army of Renown.
“A unique heroic trait grants you a once-per-battle free use of one of these abilities – crucial in a clutch – while Bond-beast traits let you enhance one of your First Phalanx Cavalry units. You can make them harder to hit or more reliable when redeploying, or remove the negative effect of the Companion keyword from their weapons, which means Volturnos’ passive buffs can affect these pelagic pals.”

Overall, I’d say both of these Armies of Renown have potential. We’ll have to wait and see the other options in the book to see who’s going to rise to the top though. One of them will certainly be taking a victory lap on the tabletop.
