Next week, Black Templars and Grey Knights showcase why there are some jobs only a Space Marine can do. Also combat patrols!

The Black Templars and Grey Knights occupy two highly specialized niches within the Imperium. They go after very specific enemies, the kinds of things that would vaporize a normal human, and that would be too difficult for even a normal member of the Adeptus Astartes to take on. They go above and beyond the average Space Marine, dedicating themselves to be true heroes of humanity. And you can take them both for a spin next week as part of the next round of pre-orders, along with some spicy combat patrol boxes.

Black Templars

It all kicks off with the Black Templars, whose only mission is to stay Crusading. They have been for the last ten thousand years. So, you know, they know a thing or two about Crusading. And soon you’ll be able to field them in all their glory, with the new Codex giving rules for three Detachments, and 18 datasheets that will let you bring their … particular idiom to the tabletop.

Miniatures-wise, there are a few new toys to pre-order. Starting with the Crusade Ancient. These are warriors who wield the sacred relics of the Black Templars in battle to great effect. You can build a Banner with Blank Shield or Banner with the Armageddon Crusade on it with this kit.

The Execrator, always a favorite of the Black Templars, is a warrior-priest who really puts the priest into it. With litanies of hatred they will inspire their allies to destructive rampages. You can outfit them with one of two crozius tops, and an absolver bolt pistol, pyre pistol, power sword, or relic.

Grey Knights

The Grey Knights, on the other hand, wage a secret war against Chaos in all its forms. They are among the most psychically powerful Space Marines, and you can see just what makes them tick in their new Codex. Inside are rules for five Detachments and 25 datasheets.

They also get a big new battleforce box, the Sanctic Conclave. This box comes with 31 miniatures, led by a Grand Master in Nemesis Dreadknight that shows off the new upgrade frame with Nemesis Flail and Sublimator.

Alongside the new Dreadknight weapons, you get five Brotherhood Terminators, five Paladins, and 20 Grey Knights that can be built as Strike, Interceptor, Purifier, or Purgation squads as you see fit.

Combat Patrols

And there are four new combat patrol boxes going out for preorder this week. As you might imagine, there are comat patrol boxes for the two featured factions. In the Black Templars, yoou’ll find an Emperor’s Champion, three Bladeguard Veterans, five Sword Brethren, and ten Crusaders.

In the Grey Knights combat patrol, however, are ten Strike Squad members, five Brotherhood Terminators, a Venerable Dreadnought, and Castellan Crowe.

Alongside those two titanic Chapters, there’s also a Space Wolf combat patrol, featuring Fyrri Askar (a Wolf Guard Battle Leader), as well as ten Blood Claws, five Wolf Guard Terminators, and five Wulfen.

And if it bugs you that it’s all marine boxes, don’t worry. There’s also a Tyranid combat patrol box. In the Assault Brood, you’ll find a Parasite of Mortrex, three Tyrant Guard, a Biovore and Spore Mines, and ten Genestealers.
