Well this Rumor Engine is easy to identify what it is. But that doesn’t solve this mystery from Games Workshop.

Welcome to another Tuesday! It’s looking like a good ol’fashioned Rumor Engine from Games Workshop which is fitting since we’re starting a new month off. Today’s image is fairly obvious but I’ve got some other questions. You should probably have a look first before we get too far down that rabbit hole.

“Some Rumour Engines are impossible to guess, tiny, close-up images of who knows what. Some are easier, like this one, which is obviously some sort of advanced Necron artefact.”

Rumor Engine – Spiral Vines

Yeah, I’m going to go out on a limb and say this isn’t a Necron artefact nor is it some sort of cybernetic vine. If I turn out to be wrong on that account, I’ll gladly be surprised. No, this one is organic in nature. And Necrons tend to be more of a living metal type of aesthetic.

When we’re dealing with wood like this that’s been shaped in to a spiral I think we know where to start.

I feel like Sylvaneth is the obvious option here. Being creatures from the woods and getting into weird spirit stuff is kind of their jam. The Rumor Engine would slot right into that army.

Have you ever noticed all the spiral patterns on the bark of the Treemen? I sure wonder if this spiral vine/wood is a nod to that motif.

I also like that GW isn’t afraid to use the Sylvaneth in lots of creative ways. Sure, we’ve got the Treemen and the Kurnoth Hunters and such. But there’s so many new things for them to lean into as well.

GW has been toying with some of the other elements from their faction. The Kurnoth’s Hearlds, for example, are a newer aspect of the Sylvaneth that’s being explored. Maybe GW is about to announce more from that aspect of the faction. I would be cool to see some sort of wizard/centaur character for instance.

Personally, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Wood Elves in Warhammer. I know they are back in The Old World and we’re not likely to see them return to AoS now. But, as I said, there are aspects of the Sylvaneth that could be explored as a nod to those roots — no pun intended.

I’m sticking with Sylvaneth. But if you’ve got some other guesses please share them in the comments. I’ll be curious to see what folks think about this one.

It’s gotta be the Tree-spirits, right?
