A new book for Star Trek Adventures gives you the same power Khan sought to use. Unleash a Genesis of your own with the Exploration Guide.
Star Trek Adventures has a new sourcebook in the works. The Exploration Guide is all about visiting new worlds, seeking out new life, and new civilizations. Boldly going where no one has gone before. Because within it is the power to create new worlds. Even whole new sectors. If you want to expand the galaxy map by going deeper into any region, this is the book you’ll want. But, of course, it’s more than just a “worldbuilding book.” So much more.
Star Trek Adventures: Exploration Guide
I do love that they open up with the quote from Dr. Carol Marcus about Genesis, though. I mean it’s one of the best OG Star Trek movies, and the events within The Wrath of Khan led, pretty directly, to Kirk and Spock going back in time to save the whales (the best of the OG Star Trek movies). And as you might expect, this is the book for creating your own planet, Class M or otherwise.
Within you’ll find tools for making new sectors of space, and new star systems within those sectors. And within the star systes, planets and other spatial phenomena. It comes down to a lot of random tables. But we love oracle books, in any RPG. We just do. I think it’s because the dice are deciding, in a way.
So, you’ll find tables for planets and moons and strange worlds. You’ll also find a lot of guidance for exploring those planets. Star Trek Adventures uses a lot of narrative hooks and mechanical effects to prop up exploration. So the extra guidance will be helpful. It was one of the most head-scratchy parts for me when I played. But wrestling with that system can help the rest of it click into place. Here’s a look at what you get in the book:
“The Exploration Guide is essential reading for any Star Trek Adventures crew interested in expanding the characters, missions, and campaigns into the final frontier and creatingnew sectors, worlds, and environments to discover and explore.
Usethe wela th of advice and random tables in this book to create original galactic sectors, star systems, planets, and planetary terrains, and then explore those unique locations in your crew’s original Star Trek stories!”
Of course, there’s more than just world stuff in the book. There’s also plenty of new character options. You’ll find two new Career Paths, along with 10 new career events, 21 new character talents, and five new options for awards and honors. As well there are optionsfo r having secrets that become known throughout the course of the campaign.
So if all that sounds exciting, you’ll want to pre-order the Exploration Guide. When you do, you’ll get a PDF right away, with physical books expected to ship in October of 2025.
Now get out there and boldly go!
