Goatboy here with a 40K list idea that wants to cover the table in angry bodies. Meet the endless zealous masses of the Black Tempar Crusader Horde!
I want a mass of Black Templar nonsense that runs down the table, gets angry, and hopefully kills you in the kindest way possible by forcing you to make a boatload of saves. It is the dream of any angry Black Templar player and the concept is that if you have too many bodies to chew through there is no way you can lose right? Let’s see how much nonsense I can fit in.
Putting the List Together
I think will start with three units of Crusaders maximized to he brim in a cup full of the Emperor’s Wrath. It probably tastes like an Arnold Palmer as they are deliciously full of the spite of the Empire. From there we will throw in a few characters with most likely some combos to either pull in Advance & Charge with the Execrator but will see if any other character sounds better. Of course they wouldn’t let the Executor join up with a Captain or Chapter Master but that is ok – they just don’t want me having nearly as much fun as I could have.
Crusader Squad X 20 – 4 of them with Powerfists – 310pts
Crusader Squad X 20 – 4 of them with Powerfists – 310pts
Crusader Squad X 20 – 4 of them with Powerfists – 310pts
Total – 930pts
From there we need to figure out some characters. I really like the idea of Advance and Charge so three Execrators could be fun. The bigger issue is we can’t really have any other character added so we have to think what would be better. If we have one Advance and Charge option designed to go fast, tie things up, and most likely die we can leave the other two to be wave 2 and 3 for the future.
Execrator – 70pts
Crusade Ancient – 65pts
Emperor’s Champion – 90pts
Chaplain Grimaldus – 110pts
High Marshal Helbrecht – 120pts
Lieutenant – 65pts
Total – 525pts
This gives us the following units.
Crusader Squad w/Execrator and Crusade Ancient
This unit can Advance & Charge as well as fight on death on a 4+ or get more OC if they kill something.
We have the Emperor’s Champion to be a little jerk hiding in the buildings to kill stuff.
The Next crusader squad with Chaplain Grimaldus
This unit gets a fun pile of options to choose from turn by turn depending on what you need.]
Finally the last Crusader Squad gets Helbrecht and a Lieutenant.
They get +1 to hit and strength on his unit combo’d with the Lieutenant to get a pile of Lethal Hits.
This is a nice pile of leaders so from there we have to look at utility to help things out. We can go the Tank route to get some damaging firepower as the rest of the army forces the middle and makes opponents play fair. Let’s go with one Repulsor Executioner as their rule allows them to reroll hits if the target is near one of your other units. You are planning on going hard into the enemy so getting a reroll on top of it all should be helpful.
Repulsor Executioner – 220pts
This sits us at 1675 which still leaves some room for other options. I am thinking some Scouts to ensure we can get to the middle and not get bogged down.

Scout X 5 – 75pts
Leftover Points – Hmmm…
We got some points left over so will look at a Detachment and then go from there. I really like the Companions of Vehemence as they feel like a good option with the available Enhancements and what I want to do. Will go with that option and utilize two Enhancements to make my Advance/Charge unit get bonuses for doing that.
This would be Oathbound Exemplar (15) to give the unit a +1 to advance rolls and the ability to action if they advance. This would be followed by the Zealous Vanguard (20) which gives the unit a 6″ scout move as well. This will combo up to give us a unit that will get to move, be able to action things, and just be a pain in the butt.
We have 205 points left to mess with so what else can we add. I think 2 units of Jump Assault Intercessors can help give us some deep strike options, fast moving pieces, and some other units to do some actions with. Plus they can punch pretty hard and will finish off the army with some points left over. Let’s get it all put together and see what it looks like.

Black Templar Crusader Horde Tactics
This is just trying to abuse the table with a ton of bodies, some anti tank to hide behind this mess, and hopefully letting a unit of Crusaders hit something and force math upon your head. I don’t know how pwerful it will be, but it at least feels like a Black Templar army of jerks running at you trying to tell you about the glory of the Emperor.
No Pity! No Remorse! No Fear!
