Halo: Flashpoint is deploying the fan favorite Orbital Drop Shock Troopers and we’re getting a first hint at their rules!

The next Halo: Flashpoint expansion is Feet First Into Hell and it’s already up for pre-order. Today we’re getting a better look at what the Troopers of the ODST are bringing to the tabletop. So let’s strap in and drop down. It’s Orbital Drop time!

Halo: Flashpoint ODST Troopers Rules

First up we have the ODST Special Purpose Troopers. These are the fairly well rounded options for the tabletop and are generally decked out for longer range engagements. They come with M392 DMR or a BR55 Battle Rifle and both of the weapons have Optics which are perfect for shooting downrange. They also come with the Scout keyword so they are great for early game attacks.

They are also some of the cheapest Troopers you can bring. You can fit four of them in your squad for less than 100 points.

Up next are the ODST Air Assault ‘Bullfrogs’ — Troopers who perfect for dropping in and eliminating targets at close range. They come equipped with Jump Packs and Acrobatic keywords so moving around the battlefield comes easy for them. That makes using their Combat Knife and closer range MA40 Assault Rifle or a M7S SMG even better. Seeing how both of these weapons come with Weight of Fire (2) you’ll be able to take out shields and enemies quickly!

For the heavy duty firepower role we’ve got the ODST Firebreaks to thank for that. These Troopers pack a Demo Charge as well as a M7057 Flamethrower or M90 Shotgun. Both are ideal for getting up close and personal. Make no mistake, they are heavy hitters and are ideal for storming objectives and clearing out the enemy. The M7057 introduces a brand new keyword with Incendiary. That allows it to burn whole cubes in an attack! The M90 is super reliable with Lethal (1) for dropping targets caught in range.

Finally, we have the ODST Officers. There are two you can deploy. The first is the ODST 2nd Lieutenant who brings both Scout and Tactician. They also pack the MA5K ‘Avenger’ Carbine which has Weight of Fire (3). This makes it amazing at dropping shields or shredding unshielded targets.

Last. but not least. we have the ODST Captain who brings a higher version if Tactician and the M6C/SOCOM that Optics as well. Fans of the early Halo games know how deadly and accurate that pistol is — I have a funny feeling it’s going to be potent on the tabletop, too.

Dropping In Hot

Mantic also teased one other special rule for the ODST in Halo: Flashpoint:

“One of the most iconic features of the ODST, Hot Drop is a Special Order to allow them to drop precisely onto the board by passing a Ranged test – instead of respawning in the usual manner.”

This ability can also be used by the ODST to redeploy further on to the board at the start of your games. That makes those Scout/Optics combos really shine. Just be aware that failing the Hot Drop roll can also be devastating to the poor Trooper inside…

Again, the pre-orders are live right now. Feet First Into Hell is expected to arrive in October 2025!
