Hey, look, sometimes you feel like burning it all down. And if you’re a DM, you can actually dabble with it—thanks to these fiery foes!
You know, sometimes we all just want to burn it all to the ground and start over again from the ashes. And usually, setting the campaign on fire just to watch the story burn is the purview of the player characters. But they shouldn’t get all the fun—especially since the Monster Manual is so full of fiery foes that can set the whole campaign on fire. Monsters like these!
Magma Mephit

At the low end of the burn it all down spectrum is the humble magma mephit. These might seem like demons, but they’re actually just evil little elementals that hail from the Plane of Fire and wreak havoc all across whatever Prime Material Plane they happen to crash into. Made of actual magma, they start fires wherever they go.
And sure, they’re not very powerful. But in any sort of number they can be surprisingly deadly. Because not only do they breathe fire, they also explode when they die. It’s just fire damage on all sides with these guys.
Remorhaz

Of course, you don’t actually have to be made out of fire to burn it all down, and the remorhaz proves that. These giant monstrosities are actually usually found in the arctic lands – they burn extremely hot within. It helps them tunnel through the ice and snow.
But just getting close to one is enough to deal fire damage. Outside of the arctic, they may well erupt into flame and ignite all of the non-frozen terrain around them. ut even just getting swallowed by one is an invitation to get roasted alive, so you cook as you get digested.
Flaming Skeleton

Flaming skeletons are exactly what they suggest. Take a regular skeleton and then set it on fire. Only it likes being set on fire, because it uses that fact to be much deadlier than your average skeleton. Being on fire only makes it stronger.
With a flaming scepter that makes it deadly up close or at range, the flaming skeleton can set multiple enemies alight. And even if they end up getting killed—you guessed it, they explode in a blaze of glory and fire (mostly fire). Meaning that they can up the ante if you have a bunch of them surrounding the party.
Salamander Inferno Master

The Salamander Inferno Master is a new monster introduced in the 5.5E Monster Manual. A stronger version of the standard salamander, an inferno master really lives up to its name. Not only are they surrounded by a fiery aura that can damage anyone who gets near, whenever they move they can damage their enemies with a trail of fire.
But what really makes them great at burning things down is their special fireball-like ability. They can hurl flaming bursts that are like maxed out fireballs that ALSO ignite targets, setting them on fire so that they burn across multiple turns.
Elemental Cataclysm

Of course the ultimate “burn it all down” monster is the elementaal cataclysm. These are chaotic, primordial elementals that are theve ry essence of conflict. They are crashing beings of opposing forces that rampage across the Prime Material Plane whenever they happen to escape the Elemental Chaos. Typically only cultists or spells or planar disruptions allow for this.
But when one arrives, watch out. It is the embodiment of destruction. Its clinging flames set everyone on fire, even if they happen to save against its effects. It can drown the world in a raging storm, swallow you up in earth, and leave you burning to an absolute cinder. To face one of these is to face down chaos itself.
Happy adventuring!
