The Welcome to Night Vale RPG is out for preorder, with a September 9th release date on the books. Do not approach the dog park.

As well you may know, the hit narrative podcast, Welcome to Night Vale is getting its own RPG. And what a concept that is. What a world we live in. Where a podcast that consists of community broadcasts in a strange totally normal desert town can inspire a whole RPG. And yet that’s exactly what’s happened.

Soon you can play in this town out in the middle of nowhere, where strange things are everyday occurrences, where Carlos is perfect, and where you can, if you try real hard, lose yourself but find something much better on the way.

Welcome to Night Vale RPG – Pre-Order Now, Post-Order Later

Now I’ll be the first to say that a Welcome to Night Vale RPG has its work cut out for it. Especially with such a popular format. And doubly especially since the rpg uses developer Renegade Games’ “Essence 20” system.

In a nutshell, Essence 20 is a d20 system based on the 5E ruleset. It will be the test of the system to see how well Renegade Games has adapted it to the dark humor of Welcome to Night Vale. The eerie mood, the community radio vibes – it’s all such a specific vibe.

The game comes in a boxed set that gives you a Visitor’s Guide (for players), a Host’s Guide (for GMs), and includes a five part mystery adventure that leads characters across the Numbers Station, the Library, and more of Night Vale’s environs. As well as a bunch of pre-generated characters and dice to get you into the game.

The Welcome to Night Vale Roleplaying Game invites you to explore the fictional desert city from the hit podcast that’s captured listeners’ imagination since 2012. The absurd and surreal join your game with Night Vale’s expansive cast of characters and phenomena. Enjoy the included five-part mystery or craft your story that leads you anywhere in Night Vale—just NOT the dog park!

Of course, just looking at the pages you get a sense that the vibes are right. It does look like it would be worth a jump into the proverbial vortex of reality warping effects that surround the town. Just to get a taste of the Night Vale life we all know and love.

Of course, just one taste might not be enough. But that’s up to you and your group. With Essence 20, making the jump to a new game will still feel a bit familiar. You aren’t leaving behind the icosahedrons we all know and love. So if you’re looking to get a little spooky this fall, you might want to check this one out!

Welcome to Night Vale, the RPG is die out September 9th!
