Fans of Legions Imperialis this one is for you. The Liber Strategia will consolidate and update your game!
Games Workshop has been chugging along with Legions Imperialis. There’s been a handful of supplements and updates. New lists, detachments, and formations have been added to the game. But maybe you haven’t been keeping up with all of them. That’s okay. GW has you covered. The new Liber Strategia is the book for you.
“The Liber Strategia is the crucial companion for every general. It compiles every army list for Legions Imperialis in a single book, including all the additional lists, detachments, and formations published in The Great Slaughter, The Devastation of Tallarn, and The Rise of the Dark Mechanicum – alongside a whole host of new material. “
What’s In The New Liber Strategia?
Aside from a consolidation of all the lists, detachments, and formations mentioned in the publications above, you’re also going to get a swathe of updates to parts of the list building process. Let’s tackle these one by one.
The first big thing is a bunch of new detachments for the Legiones Astartes. These mostly involve the newer tank/artillery options like Vindicators, Whirlwinds, and Scorpius Missile Tanks. There’s also new Heavy Armour options like the Typhon, Cerberus, and Mastadon!
Futhermore, there’s been updates to the army lists themselves. Here’s a few examples:
Legiones Astartes tank commanders move into the HQ Detachments slot, while several types of vehicle, such as Malcadors and Leman Russ Battle Tanks, are separated into individual Detachments.
Another major undertaking is that GW has taken a look at every detachment and made adjustments. Most of these changes were to options that were over or underperforming. Some of the changes may have just been points adjustments. In other cases, there may have even been rule adjustments to weapon options. One example is the ontemptor Dreadnought’s Kheres assault cannon gained another dice for it’s attack.
One sweeping change is to plasma guns in the game. They lost 2″ from their range but gained the Assault trait. This should hopefully make them more deadly upclose! There’s also been points adjustments to many of the Titans and Knights that are stomping around the tabletop.
Our final update is a reformat of what were previously called Formations of Legend. These are now called Iconic Formations and they encompass more than just special characters and infamous units – though those still exist.
There’s going to be more of these in the Liber Strategia but you get the idea. It’s also worth noting that this Formations of Legends update is going to open the doors for more of these types of things in the future. We’ll have to wait and see exactly what GW has planned.
This massive tome is going to be up for pre-order soon enough. It seems like a must buy for Legions Imperialis fans for sure!
All the army list for Legions Imperialis in a single book? Yeah…that’s kind of a nice thing to have.
