Games Workshop has a new Rumor Engine and it’s cutting down the competition. Or maybe it’s just here for harvest reasons.
Sometimes I think that the sickle and scythe got caught up in a bad PR campaign. Sure, it goes back to the Personification of Death and the Grim Reaper. At least the European versions…anyhow, that’s not really the point. Today, we’ve got a new Rumor Engine from Games Workshop and it’s featuring a sickle. See for yourself.
“A mysterious robed entity holding some kind of bladed farming implement?
At least we know it’s definitely not the new Nightbringer.”
Rumor Engine – Sickle Time
To be fair to the text this time around, they are spot on. We know it’s not the upcoming Nightbringer. That miniature is packing a scythe.
Yeah, sure, this might have just been an excuse to post this awesome miniature again. I’ll take it. But I also wanted to point out that the Nightbringer is wielding a scythe. It’s the two-handed version while a sickle is a single-handed version. Both were used for harvesting/gardening/farming as they were tools. Could they be weaponized? Eh…sure. But I think in both cases you’ll find much more effective bladed weapons over these two farming implements.
So who’s using this sickle? Well, that appears to be a humanoid hand holding it. On top of that, the sickle looks rather well made and shiny. I’m going to rule out Orks and Orruks here because of that. I’m still reminded of the Old World and their different wizards and magic schools however.
The sickle above could be wielded by an Amethyst Wizard. Or whatever their equivalent is in the Cities of Sigmar. I really could go either way on that one. And of course there’s one more faction I need to mention even though I highly doubt they are in the running: Nighthaunt.
There’s just the problem of we already know what those sickles look like. The brand new Lord Vitriolic is evidence of that. Additionally, the Nighthaunt quite literally just got an update so I don’t think we’re going to get anything for them within a year. But maybe this could belong to another Death faction instead.
I could see this also being part of some other Death Faction like the Soulblight Gravelords. Perhaps wielded by an Necromancer or some other wizard-type. I’m a little unsure about that as well just because it looks too clean. But who knows!? So this is where I kick it over to you. If you’ve got any theories as to what this sickle is teasing we’re all ears. Drop us a line in the comments with who you think it could be.
What exactly are they looking to Harvest here…
