Games Workshop is bringing another Black Library Character to the tabletop. Say hello to Ferran Areios, the Master of Rites.

He’s not the first character to make the jump to the tabletop and he won’t be the last. Ferran Areios is making his presence felt with a brand new miniature to accompany a new novel about the new Master of Rites, Captain of the Ultramarines 6th Company.

“Wielding a hefty thunder hammer, Areios is ready to free the worlds of Ultramar from the grip of Nurgle (and any other enemies that get in his way).

The Master of the Rites in a Space Marine Chapter is charged with recording the martial traditions of his brothers, and so Areios is rightly accompanied by a servo skull with an autoquill, ready to scribble down any urgent notes in the midst of battle.”

Ferren Areios is packing the wargear appropriate for a Space Marine Captain. That said, the servo-skull with autoquill is a nice touch. He’s taking a commanding pose and I also appreciate that he’s got both an option for a helmet or not, depending on how you want to build the character. The miniature looks like a great addition to the Space Marine ranks. It would be neat to get him along side Uriel Ventris. I wonder if GW is planning on doing a “Novel Marines” version of these characters. It would be a nice nod to the “Movie Marines” we got in White Dwarf years ago.

Anyhow, if you want to learn more about the Master of Rites Ferren Areios, you’ll have to wait to read about him from Black Library.

His story is coming out later this year. But there’s also the Dawn of Fire series which introduces him and establishes his character. Until then, keep an out for more on the Captain of the 6th Company of the Ultramarines!
