Solar Auxilia Combat Force is the last of the trio to get the pricing breakdown treatment. What sort of deal is this new boxed set?

We already covered the Legiones Astartes and the Mechanicum sets. Now it’s time to dive into the real backbone of the Imperium: The Solar Auxilia. Now, I have to start off with this caveat: we don’t know the final price point on these Combat Forces yet. GW hasn’t announced that but we can still take a look at the contents and do some math to figure out what ballpark we think these will land. And, since we know those prices, we can also do more math to check what the discounts could be. So let’s quit stalling and send in the Solar Auxilia!

Before we get into the estimated pricing I just wanted to mention that two of the kits included in this boxed set are currently out of stock from GW’s website. So that means this box might be the best way to get ahold of them — at least for now.

Now, unlike the other two boxes, this ones comes in at a lower individual MSRP. That could be a sign that GW might make this box overall cheaper vs the other two. Then again, they have a have a habit of wanting pricing parity between these style of “getting started” boxes. We’ll have to wait for an official price but let’s get into the estimates.

Estimated Savings For The Combat Force

Now, this is where we start to have to make some educated guesses. If you read the Legiones Astartes Breakdown than you know I used multiple price points to compare the savings. I’m not going to re-hash all of those same price points but here’s a quick look at the potential savings:

  • Retail – $150 : Savings – $94
  • Retail – $170 : Savings – $74
  • Retail – $190 : Savings – $54

Relative to the other two boxes, we’re looking at almost a $20 difference in savings. That’s fairly noteworthy. It’s also a good reason I think the $180 price point for all three seems to be a good fit. That would basically cover the cost of one of the $65 kits in discounts. And again, as I mentioned previously, I still think at $150 you’re getting a steal and these will sell out very quickly.

Deal or No Deal?

Overall, I do think if you’re starting a Solar Auxilia Force this is a good buy. You’ve got a lot of core units to build from. Additionally, because this army is basically the Astra Militarum for the Horus Heresy, you’ve got three routes to go for the build: Bodies, Bulk, or Balanced. If you’re going with the “bodies” option, you’re going to need a whole lot more Auxiliaries. If you’re going for the “bulk” option, you’ll need more tanks and walkers. And for the “balanced” option, I think this box represents that facet the best.

Loading up on two or more of these boxes would be a good idea. Especially if you’re starting from scratch. I think the discount would make up for any army list restrictions. Anyhow, most of these kits can be built in alternative ways as well. So you could get two boxes and build the alternate options. Except for the Las Rifle Section — but you’ll likely want a squad or two just to sit on objectives anyhow.

We’ll be keeping an eye out on how these boxes end up. Hopefully that $180 price point (or lower) sticks for the new edition!
