Marvel Rivals needs more Strategists Characters. The good news is that Marvel: Crisis Protocol has paved the way.

I’ve been cranking away at Marvel: Crisis Protocol for a bit and I’ve really been enjoying painting up these miniatures. But when I’m not painting, I’ve also been enjoying playing Marvel Rivals quite a bit. Season 3.5 kicked off this month and I listed off a few characters that I think would be awesome Vanguard additions to the game. And, because Marvel Rivals has a quite an imbalance between their three class types, I wanted to also visit a few characters that I think would be awesome Strategists for the game, too.

Now, if you’re if you’re not familiar with the Strategists in Marvel Rivals, these are typically your “healers.” But they often come with some other sort of support option — something that makes other characters better. And there have been some …interesting examples of that. Ultron comes to mind (yeah, how did they make that guy a supporting/healing character). While their primary job is to (typically) help keep your team alive, they aren’t just healbots when played well. So with that in mind, let’s get into it!

Note: I’m going to skip characters that I’ve already mentioned and any supposed “leaked” characters. That includes a lot of X-Men. So yeah, there are some pretty obvious options I’m skipping because of that reason.

Exodus

Exodus is a new addition to Marvel: Crisis Protocol and I don’t expect him to be as wildly recognized by the mainstream as some of the other characters. That said, I think he would fit the role of a Strategist quite well. Being a mutant that’s been modified by Apocalypse, he’s got history with the other mutants in Marvel. But his power set involves Telekinesis and Telepathy. As evidenced by this character card in MCP, he can also project a telekinetic shield onto his allies. That could be represented a few different ways but it could certainly be molded as a way to heal others. He’d also be a another Strategist that could fly, too.

Shuri

Shuri would be another great addition to the Strategist role. Now, I know she’s got a lot of history in the comics and has even donned the mantle of Black Panther, too. But what I liked about her as as Strategist is her genius-level intellect. I could see her tossing out a boost to other characters by way of some vibranium powered tech. Also, in MCP, she uses those Panther Gauntlets to shove folks around. I think she could fit the bill quite nicely.

Mysterio

One other thing that Marvel Rivals needs is more villains. And, strangely enough, I think Mysterio check both the Strategist box as well as the “more villains” box. Now, I know he’s sort of viewed as a bit of a joke/punching bag villain for Spider-Man to beat on. However, his technology is extremely convincing! I think that his tech could be used to “heal” friendly or cause enemies to do less damage via shields on allies. Or even grant pockets of protection. I know there’s balancing issues and game design to work here. But if Ultron can toss out a healing bot, then Mysterio’s holograms could be used for good, too!

Lady Mastermind

Lady Mastermind‘s illusions are so convincing they can make characters believe they are injured even when they physically aren’t. That said, I wonder if the reverse could also be true. There’s something to be said about the psychosomatic symptoms she can inflict on her targets. Again, I think it really depends on how you’d make this work to fit within the game design, but I think she could totally be a Strategist character. I mean, we all know Marvel Rivals needs another buxom blonde white lady in the game… (Just to be clear only that sentence is sarcasm. If you know the roster of characters in the game then it makes a lot more sense).

Wong

Okay, Wong is literally a healer in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. He can also give energy to other characters in the game. What better strategist could you add from MCP to Marvel Rivals?! Wong also has a couple different versions folks might be familiar with. The version of this character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is probably more well known at this point — and I like that for Wong. It could certainly be a new skin cosmetic or a different spin on him. But yeah, he could 100% be a Strategist in Marvel Rivals. And yes, he should 100% have a team-up with Doctor Strange.
