Victoriana from Cubicle 7, out now on DriveThruRPG, blends D&D 5E with a London on the verge of a revolution, sorcerous or otherwise.
Cubicle 7’s Victoriana blends 5th Edition D&D with Victorian London in a sort of “there’s a secret occult world that only a few people know about, but it’s also permeated all of society from the high to the low” situation. Yeah. Sign me up.
It’s somewhere on the spectrum of “what if Sherlock Holmes fought Cthulhu” (which is a real thing you can go read) and those books about Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell; except magic isn’t just returning to London, it’s been there a while. And it’s one of the things bubbling up, along with class inequality, that is pushing London towards a revolution.
Vault 5E: Victoriana Core Rulebook – London Calling
This book is the classic Victoriana RPG setting adapted to 5th Edition. Meaning all the steampunk/magical elements get codified around the familiar 5E d20 system we all know and love.
You play as Irregulars – another name pulled straight from the pages of Sherlock Holmes. Only instead of urchins and beggars that work in the employ of the world’s greatest consulting detective, these Irregulars are “headstrong Londoners from the hardworking proletariat, gadgeteering bourgeoisie, magically inclined nobility.” In other words, player characters.
But owing to the specifics of Victoriana it’s 5E with some extra stuff. For instance, you don’t just play as a party, you play as an Association. It’s not just a fancy name for your adventuring party. It’s actually a crucial part of the campaign that comes with its own mechanics to support it.
You might play as a group focusing on Monster Hunting in one campaign, while another might be oriented around the roiling tides of revolution. And what you pick gives you access to different perks, associates, and other mechanical benefits.
Classes, too, work differently. You’ll find the gun-toting Adventurer alongside the artificer-like Gadgeteer. Each of the 8 Victoriana specific classes has two different subclasses, all geared around supporting the idea of this steampunk world.
“Victoriana is a world not unlike our own, but one that the emergence of magic and the supernatural has forever changed. Fantastical folk and strange creatures walk the streets, wyvern riders patrol the skies, and magic and science coalesce to create otherwise impossible technological advancements. It is a world of steampunk adventure in the aetheric smoke of industrial London.”
Victoriana is available now from DriveThruRPG as a PDF. Or you can pre-order a physical copy from Cuicle 7 (delivery is expected in early 2026). And when you do, you’ll unlock the PDF from DTRPG at the same time, because C7 isn’t afraid of releasing an easy to access digital file along with the actual book.
Smoke, mirrors, gaslamp, steam – all the stuff you need except your own airship/blimp!
