Games Workshop is showcasing more rules for the new army in Age of Sigmar. Get ready for the Helsmiths of Hashut with these previews.

Before we get into all the new previews Games Workshop has also put out a new video about the Helsmiths of Hashut with interviews from the designers who helped bring this army (back) to the tabletop. If you’ve got 10 minutes it’s totally worth a watch.

Now, on to the rules!

“The Helsmiths’ tactics revolve around their relationship to the twin influences of all-consuming industry and the tyrannical arrogance of their god Hashut. The basics of their battleplan are illustrated here, but it’s only part of the story. While the Despots, Daemonsmiths, and Ashen Elders all vie for control of their ziggurats, it is only the Daemonsmiths who can create an Infernal Taurus.”

Just like it was mentioned in the preview rules preview, the Daemonsmiths also benefit from the Daemonic Power Points. In this case they are granted Daemonic Resilience which can also lead to the benefits listed above. Unholy Stampede allows for this unit to use Retreat abilities and still use Charge abilities later in the turn. Additionally, there’s no mortal wounds applied to them for using the Retreat abilities. Hence the whole “unholy stampede” name. That and it’s a bull. Get ready for those horns!

Speaking of horns, that’s exactly what you can expect from those melee attacks — specifically Horns AND Hooves. On the charge those attacks go up to 4 damage a pop and with 6 of them that’s a potential of 24 damage. And that’s just the mount. I’m curious what other buffs or extras this unit might have.

It’s worth noting that the Helsmiths use both magic and prayers to bolster their forces. Above we can see the Daemonsmith’s spell as well as the Ashen Elder’s ability, too. Stoked Fanaticism sounds like it’s going to be pretty useful once you get a few daemonic power points in them. That could be a massive bubble of “ignore the first damage” around this little fella. Pairing him with some tough/high armor units could be very effective. Now, if only the Helsmiths had such units…

Oh right! Bull Centaurs. While they certainly want to be on the charging end (most of the time) that added survivability could be the difference between bonus Bull-Charge damage or not. And if you’re holding back their Anointed Sentinel cousins for a gnarly counter-charge then that works, too! Those extra plinks of damage might not seem like much but they will add up over time. With these larger units that could really be an entire model saved from being removed before they get to fight.

Personally, I’m curious to get a good look at the entire army. I think there’s some serious potential here but it could take a while to see it fully explored. That’s typically the case for brand new armies anyhow. But once their case gets cracked, you can bet these bulls are going on parade!
