Games Workshop has a bunch of game from the past they could bring back. Here are just three of them I want to see return.

In it’s early days Games Workshop made a lot of other games and board games. Some of them have gone on to be classics — think Talisman and all those spin offs. Others got rolled up into other games or systems.

And some were a swing and a miss if we’re being honest. But that’s okay. When there’s room for improvement that means there’s a reason to update things. I think Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress is a good example of a nod to Space Crusade/Warhammer Quest but with a more focused storyline. There were elements that worked and some that didn’t. But it was worth doing.

Anyhow, my point is that there’s a ton of games that GW has made in the past that they could bring back and make bigger, better, and more fun to play. And may, just maybe, we could get some even more impressive miniatures out of it.

Battlefleet Gothic

I couldn’t do a list like this and NOT include Gothic.  This is the Spaceship Battle games that everyone seems to really love. Did it die out because GW stopped supporting it or did GW stop supporting it because it sorta died out? I blame Necrons. But really, I think this game could see a big resurgence. The majority of the miniatures were really cool and gave us that BFG flair. There’s a video game out which is an …acquired taste lets say. Personally, I think Void War might be more my jam…but that’s a different style game.

ANYHOW, I’d still love to see BFG make a come back if for nothing else than to see what GW could do with the miniatures. I wouldn’t mind if they upscaled things to make it more in line with the size of Firestorm Armada (man, I miss that one). I also think the design team could either update the rules to streamline a few things or just redo it completely. YMMV. The point it that it’s IP GW is sitting on that could be used for anything they could come up with.

Gorkamorka

Look, I LOVE that Necromunda has added vehicles and moved out of the Hive Spires and on to the Ash Wastes. At least it’s an optional setting now. But I still long for the days of Gorkamorka! There’s just something about Orks and getting to customize Trukks that’s sooo appealing. Plus, there’s already an established range of Orky vehicles that the Mek Boyz have been working out.

“Oh but what about Speed Freeks?!” No. Not the same. Gorkamorka was essentially Necromunda, but with Orks and Trukks. It’s that simple. That’s what the people want, GW. Make it happen. Heck, make it an expansion FOR Necromunda if you have to. I’m sure there can be a contingent of Orks out in the wilds. If the Squats can survive out there for 30 years (IRL) then I’m sure the Orks can make it, too.

OG Warhammer Quest

I just want to be very clear here: I like the new version of Warhammer Quest. I though it was a good idea that was well executed. Mostly. Between all the various Warhammer Quest games set in the Mortal Realms of AoS, I liked it as a concept.

That said, I miss OG Warhammer Quest. While this was a Dungeon Crawler at it’s core, there were loads of expansions to this game that also added some other really cool stuff. For example, the quest/XP system is one that I miss. This gave it more of an RPG-lite element to it. I personally really like the types of games where you’re basically playing an RPG without the need for a GM. That’s sort of what OG Warhammer Quest let you do with a longer campaign.

Now, I’m probably getting it mixed up because I never had a copy when I was a kid. My friend did and he had a bunch of expansions. And I never really knew what was in the OG box and what was expansion material. However, what I DO remember is buying my own miniature/character for Warhammer Quest and bringing that to our sessions. That’s what I’d want GW to do again. And yes, when I mean OG Warhammer Quest, set it in the The World That Was. Let’s go back — WAY BACK — to the that timeline and do some Warhammer Questing! Shoot, I’d settle for the Old World. Just gimme the “open world campaign questing” again.

If I had to choose just one…I’d say Gorkamorka. Only for the hobbying opportunities of customizing my own Orks and Trukks!
