The Starfinder Mystic is more than a spellcaster and healer. They know where their closest allies are and if they get injured.
The Starfinder Mystic is a class for people who want their characters to have a deep connection with their allies and the universe around them. They draw on the fundamental forces of the cosmos that bind everyone and everything, and can use those connections for support, healing, communication, or even battle. Everything is intertwined, and the Mystic is the member of your party that knows what that intertwining looks like and how to use it.
The Starfinder Mystic Basics
The Starfinder Mystic is a class with a deep connection to and understanding of the universe around them. And they use that connection and understanding to affect things around them as well as help their allies. They are a Wisdom-heavy class and take a boost to the attribute at character creation. Mystics start out with training in Fortitude, Perception, Reflex, Simple Weapons, Unarmed Attacks, Light Armor, and Unarmored Defense and expert-level training in Will. They will also take training in a skill determined by their condition, a number of additional skills equal to their Intelligence Modifier plus three.
In combat, the Mystic is primarily a magic-wielder. They will cast powerful spells both to blast their foes and help or empower their allies. Sometimes, they may heal even someone with whom they share a bond. They are always aware of the location, distance, and health of their bonded allies. And while they may not be an ideal front-lines leader for their party, the Starfinder Mystic will often have insight and intel that their friends would be smart to listen to.
In non-combat scenarios, a Starfinder Mystic uses their connections to the world around them and other people to shape their social encounters. They are skilled at helping others work through disagreements, and generally give of an air of empathy, intuition, and understanding.
Mystic Bond
One of the most unique abilities of the Mystic is the Bond they can form with their closest companions. They can maintain this bond with up to ten willing creatures, and the bond lasts until the Mystic or the other creature no longer wishes to remain bonded.
With the bond, the Starfinder Mystic always knows roughly how far and in what direction the other members of the bond are in. They also know if they are conscious, unconscious, dying, dead, and how healthy they are (hit points). The bond can be affected by some magics or technologies, and does not work across planes or in the Drift.
Connections
The Starfinder Mystic’s uses a mystical force known as ‘connections’ to grant them access to magic. Their connection comes from a divine patron and is a manifestation of a primeval cosmic force. Connections determine the Mystic’s spellcasting tradition as well as additional skills, epiphany spells, and harmonies.
Akashic: This connection grants Mystics a permanent psychic link to the Akashic Record; which is a supernatural repository of all knowledge in the universe. They use the Occult spellcasting tradition and gain the skill Occultism.
Elemental: Mystics with the elemental connection channel the raw power of the primordial elements. They use the spellcasting tradition Primal, and gain the Nature skill.
Healing: The healing connection provides Mystics direct access to an endless fountain of vitality and energy that flows through all living things. They gain access to the Divine spellcasting tradition and the skill Medicine.
Rhythm: Mystics with the rhythm connection feel the song that moves the stars and the vibrations of the universe. They use the Primal spellcasting tradition and gain the Performance skill.
Shadow: Mystics with the shadow connection know that every shadow is a portal to the Netherworld and how to sculpt the shadows with their whims. They gain access to the Divine spellcasting tradition as well as the Stealth skill.
Multiclassing a Starfinder Mystic
Characters who want to gain a new way to support their allies and connect with the universe may want to multiclass as a Mystic. This multiclass would give any character access to new and unique magic, as well as a newfound connection to the cosmic forces.
Characters who multiclass as a Mystic will gain access to the feats Mystic Dedication, Vitality Network, Basic, Expert, and Master Mystic Spellcasting, Basic and Advanced Mysticism, Basic Epiphany, and Expanded Connection.
How to Play a Starfinder Mystic
The Starfinder Mystic is an interesting and versatile class to play. There are many aspects to their character and many endlessly useful abilities to utilize. But this means that they can be a more complex class with a little more to keep track of.
While playing a Mystic, remember to keep track of your spells, focus spells, and the vitality network that you will use to heal yourself and allies. Not to mention the status, location, and health of everyone with whom you share a bond.
But every one of these small aspects you’ll be juggling will result in tangible boons on the battlefield. Knowing the location and health of your friends may make your character an invaluable source of information when it comes to strategy planning. And of course, every group could benefit from having a skilled healer.

Finally, as with every class, you’ll want to pick your connection carefully. One may sound more fun to you as the player. Others may appeal more to the vague character concept you only loosely come up with.
Happy adventuring!
