Robert Wieland unexpectedly passed away on October 12, 2025.
Wieland was a noted game designer, author, and journalist. His game design credits include his work on TTRPGs like Star Wars Saga Edition, Dungeons & Dragons, Shadowrun, Firefly (see “‘Firefly’ RPG“), and various World of Darkness supplements. His original game designs included Camelot Trigger and Save Game. Wieland was a longtime contributing writer for the Milwaukee Record, where he wrote essays and articles about geek culture-related subjects, as well as for Forbes. He also wrote and published a comic book, Girls’ Heist Out. He was also well-known as the leader of Milwaukee’s Theatre of the Mind Players gaming group.
Wieland is survived by his wife Lindsey O’Neil and daughter Louise. ICv2 offers its condolences to the family of Rob Wieland. A GoFundMe has been set up by friends requesting donations to benefit his family.
