Games Workshop has dropped a preview of things to come to Warhammer: Age of Sigmar and Kill Team with new Balance Updates.
The World Championships of Warhammer are just a few weeks away and to get things moving, Games Workshop has dropped a pair of new Balance Updates. Now, these are a little funky as they aren’t technically approved for Matched play…yet. However, GW wanted to get these out there so everyone would be on the same page when they do officially launch for the World Championships.
“Each year, a few weeks out from the event rules cutoff date, we send attendees early drafts of upcoming updates, FAQs, and Errata that are slated for release prior to the World Championships, so they are fully prepared for the games to come. After all, if you’ve battled your way across the world to reach the World Championships, we wouldn’t want you to arrive at the airport to find the rules have changed.”
World Championships Balance Updates
It makes sense that GW would want to get these out for all the players coming to the event. There’s folks from all over the world to play and it really would be a problem if they showed up with outdated rules and different expectations. This (hopefully) gets all the attendees a chance at a level playing field. What’s really different about this time around is that GW is releasing these changes to the rest of us, too.
“But this year, we thought we’d give everyone a look at the documents the WCW players get sent – perfect if you want to follow along with our livestreamed coverage throughout the weekend.”
Now, there’s a couple of call outs from these downloads. First up, they technically aren’t final versions. There might be typos or even tweaks that have to be made. GW is also planning on translating all of these and sending them out via the Warhammer Apps. Those should be out in the coming weeks, too.
The other big thing to note is that there’s no Warhammer 40k Balance Update that’s been sent out. Why? Because we just got the Quarterly Balance Dataslate. That came out last month. So…all those changes were already added.
The Downloads
With that in mind, let’s get to the Downloads!
Age of Sigmar World Championship of Warhammer Balance Update Download
For the Age of Sigmar rules…that’s it. Those are the changes above. It’s really a whole lot less dramatic than expected. That said, these changes aren’t insignificant. But there really isn’t a TON of them. These feel really targeted towards the impacted armies.
Kill Team World Championships of Warhammer Balance Update Download
As far as the Kill Team updates go, there’s actually quite a lot. That document is 11 pages long and covers Core Book and Universal Equipment errata as well as a bunch of the individual Kill Teams themselves. I think part of the reason this document is so much larger than the AoS one is because AoS does have a bunch of other documents and updates on a more regular basis.
Anyhow, these downloads are out now. So go check them out and follow along at the World Championships of Warhammer!
