Have you got a masquerade in your future? Do you need the perfect costume? These five magic items might be just the ticket.

I don’t know what it is about the spooky season, but they just seem perfect for those sessions where you have to be in a masquerade. Maybe you’re there to infiltrate the corrupt noble court. Maybe you’re trying to stop someone from assassinating the prince-regent. Whatever the case, masquerades and D&D go hand in hand.

Just so long as you make sure you’re properly equipped. You might want to grab one of these magic items.

Hat of Diguise

5E Bard

This is probably the single most obvious one, but that’s why we’re mentioning it. With the Hat of Disguise, you can cast Disguise Self at will. Which means you can be dressed head to toe in any outfit you want – you could even show up to the party as a completely different person. All part of the perfect masquerade.

Cloak of the Bat

Another favorite. Because the heart of a good masquerade is having the right costume for the job. And with its batwing motif you’ll look gothic and stunning. With its ability to gain advantage on Stealth checks and the ability to Fly while in Dim Light or Darkness, you’ll have the ability to sneak into or out of just about anything. Especially since if the worst comes to pass, you can always just Polymorh yourself into a normal bat, and then you can innocuously make your way out of whatever sticky situation you might have otherwise been in.

Boots of Striding and Springing

You might be wondering, why the boots of striding and springing? But think about how many masquerades feature a dance. With boots like this, you can wear even heavy armor and keep your normal speed (the perfect way to make your actual armor look like “costume armor”) and if you’re not, you will be magically light on your feet. After all, how else could you jump up to 30 feet by only spending 10 feet of movement?

Gem of Seeing

Listen, if you’re playing a game of D&D and you go to a masquerade, that is all but a guarantee that someone is going to be up to no good. And they will be in disguise, perhaps even illusory disguise or shapeshifting. But that’s where a humble accessory like the Gem of Seeing comes in handy – you not only get a fancy monocle, you also gain the ability to gain 120 feet of Truesight for ten whole minutes when you take a Magic Action. This lets you see the true form of any creature transformed by magic, see through illusions, into the Ethereal Plane, even invisible creatures or magical darkness can’t hide someone from you.

Eyes of Charming

Finally, if you’re at a Masquerade, you probably want to have some sort of social interaction. Don’t let having dumped Charisma keep you from intrigue – with the Eyes of Charming, you can make sure to Charm anyone who might be in your way. Just, maybe have a backup plan, the DC isn’t that high.
