Renegade has announced a deckbuilding game based on the Dungeon Crawler Carl novels by Matt Dinniman, and provided some details on the previously announced Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG (see “Renegade Partners with Matt Dinniman”). Both games will be initially offered via a Backerkit crowdfunding campaign, launching in April 2026.

Novel series cover artist Luciano Fleitas will provide artwork for both games.  The RPG image with this article is an early sketch for the eventual cover illustration.

The Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG will be for two or more players, who play as one or more crawlers and a Game Master.  The crawlers can be Carl, Donut, Florin, Prepotente or a new crawler the player builds with customizable class and race; while the Game Master is both ally (game guides, managers, NPCs, and sponsors), and enemy (mobs, bosses, and the cruel Dungeon AI).  Players strive to entertain viewers, gain followers, and survive challenges.

Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable, the deckbuilding game based on the property, will be a solo or 2-player co-op card-crafting game set in the World Dungeon. Gameplay will be based on John D. Clair’s Unstoppable system (see “Renegade’s ‘Unstoppable’”), which allows players to upgrade abilities and equipment during play using the card-crafting mechanic. Players will battle against bosses, while gearing and leveling up their hero.

More information will be provided via a Pre-Launch Party on February 2, 2026, with the crowdfunding campaign launching on April 14.

Dinneman and executives from Vault and Aethon spoke at the ICv2 Insider Talks at New York Comic Con (see “ICv2 Insider Talks: LitRPG”).
