Mongoose Publishing has reached an agreement with World’s Largest RPGs to produce a 5E version of the venerable Traveller RPG under license, the company announced.  The new version is seen as a way to bring 5E players into the Traveller community; it does not replace the Mongoose version, which will continue.

The project is seen as combining 5E versions of the Mongoose Publishing volumes into 4-5 books, collected into a 2000-page slipcased edition.  The 5E version will go beyond the existing universe, paving the way for new settings.

World’s Largest RPGs crowdfunded a 1600-page four-book slipcased edition of World’s Largest Dungeon, raising $1.021,783 earlier this year, with a 2026 fulfillment planned.

Development of the new version will be led by longtime RPG designer Timothy Brown, who was a designer of Traveller: 2300 for GDW back in 1986, and of Traveller 4E for Imperium Games in 1996. Brown also held roles at TSR, including Director of Game Development, and was a designer of numerous games over the past decades for a variety of other companies.  Brown will be joined by a team of Traveller and 5E experts, in coordination with Mongoose.

Mongoose released Traveller Companion Update 2024 early last year (see “’Traveller Companion Update 2024’”).
