The Space Wolves are back with a new Detachment. It’s Logan Grimnar’s time to lead the hunt on the 40k tabletop!
If you’re a fan of the Great Wolf Logan Grimnar, then this one is for you! Personally, I’m a big fan of this updated miniature and this Detachment is the perfect excuse to run him. Say hello to the Saga of the Great Wolf Detachment!
“This Detachment is open to all Space Wolves armies, but it certainly encourages you to use Logan Grimnar himself. There are 3 once per game Hunting Packs that buff your whole army for that turn. Either re-roll advances/charges, +1 to hit for shooting or in Melee your weapons have Lethal Hits/Sustained Hits 1. If you have taken Logan Grimnar, you can use one of the Hunting Packs an additional time.”

Once again, this Detachment is technically open to any Space Wolves army. However, if you’re not taking Logan Grimnar with this Detachment you’re kind of missing out. Howling Onslaught specifically requires to him to activate the extra benefit. The 3 once-per-game abilities are pretty solid. Grimnar just allows you to use one of them an additional time. Which might not sound like much but I could see reasons for wanting to double up on all three options.
On top of that, the Enhancements are also nice. I really like the option for a Wolf Guard Battle Leader to grant an attached unit Lance on their weapons with Skjald’s Fortelling. I also like Grimnar’s Mark. Having a Terminator Captain lead Wolfguard Terminators seems appropriate…and the free Rapid Ingress/Heroic Intervention is just a cherry on top.
The Stratagems seem more like supportive stratagems that help to setup things to happen. Fenrisian Ferocity allows for the target unit to basically move through terrain freely. Then again there is also Eye of the Pack that just adds 1 to wound rolls in the shooting phase so it’s not like the army is going to lack a bite!
It will be interesting to see if this Detachment moves the needle towards Logan Grimnar. It certainly can’t hurt!
I’m pretty sure the old Great Wolf has a few new tricks to play with this Detachment!
