The Horus Heresy is getting a new Siege Assault Battlegroup Box. What sort of a deal is this one going to be?
Games Workshop has the previously announced Siege Assault Battlegroup Box going up for pre-order this weekend. I was wondering when it would hit shelves but now we know. Additionally, we also know the price point on this new box is going to be $215. With that in mind, let’s bust out the math to figure out what sort of discounts are going to be included with this set.
Siege Assault Battle Group Pricing Breakdown
Contents:
12x Cataphractii Terminators $96*
Breacher Squad upgrades $48.50**
Leviathan Siege Dreadnought $89
Total Estimated Individual MSRP: $273.50
Total Estimated Savings: $58.50
*Based on the price of Legion Tartaros Terminator Squad (10 miniatures). I would like to note that the Cataphractii are likely to be more expensive because it appears they will be in sets of 6 and not a box of 10.
**Based on the Melee Weapons Upgrade Set as it has a similar amount of bits and arms.
While the estimated savings is $58.50, again, I want to point out that the actual savings will likely be higher due to the Cataphractii model count. Overall, I think this is a relatively okay discount. It doesn’t feel quite as high as some of the other boxed sets but I think that’s due to the nature of the upgrade packs.
Now, is this is a good deal? That’s debatable. Price-wise it’s …fine. But really you need to determine if this is a box of miniatures you’re really going to need in your collection or on the tabletop. This is a very heavily armored brick of dudes for the Horus Heresy. Honestly, I think this might be fantastic for a Boarding Action game or some other very close-combat style mission. On the open tabletop? Eh…maybe not so much. It will need some way to get these infantry miniatures around. So think either Rhinos or Land Raiders for support.
In a perfect world, this Siege Assault force is locked in to close combat (or short-to-mid range fire fights) and does well by relying on their armor and the “safety” of close combat. But if you’re going to be marching across the board on foot be prepared to get blasted by ALL the firepower the enemy can throw at you.
You might also want to consider a Mk III Command Squad. Just tossing that in the mix, too.
