The saying goes “only in death does duty end.” The latest Rumor Engine from Games Workshop proves that point.

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s the final Rumor Engine of 2025! To be honest, I wasn’t sure if GW was going to have one today but here we are. That said, it does seem like we’re ending the year on a bit of a morbid note. Or maybe that’s just because we’re seeing a skull today. But this is Warhammer and skulls belong here along with tactical rocks and ruined buildings. Anyhow, let’s take a look at the Rumor Engine and you can see what I mean.

“Assuming we’re looking at a skull, that is. It might just be a bashful chap with a cheeky grin and some impressive cheekbones, but given the nature of the Astra Militarum, we’re going to assume he’s with the God-Emperor now. “

Rumor Engine – Your Duty Has Ended

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this Guardsmen is indeed long past. We’ve got the standard issue Cadian Shock Trooper helmet on a skull. That said, the helmet doesn’t really look that damaged. But based on the image, I don’t know if that’s a good thing for the former bearer of this helmet.

Now, this is kind of a strange one. Just because that’s the skull/helmet of a Cadian doesn’t mean this skull is part of the Astra Militarum. It COULD be, but that’s not confirmed. So I don’t want to rule out the Imperium and their forces but I also think this is more likely base decor for the enemies of the Imperium.

At first I thought maybe this is a part of a trophy rack. However, if you look closer, it looks like their flak armor is also in the image along with a tuff of grass. So that’s why I’m leaning towards this being a basing feature.

So, having gone over all that, this one is really up in the air for me. I think it’s safe to rule out any Age of Sigmar armies. But for the 40k side of things, if this is just basing, your guess is as good as mine! So let me know in the comments who you think would have a fallen guardsmen on their base.

I’m no doctor but I’m confident that guardsmen is dead.
