Atomic Mass Games drop a rules preview for Blue Marvel and Spectrum. There’s a new Affiliation coming in 2026!

I’m actually pretty excited to see these two characters coming to the game. I feel like Blue Marvel is perhaps one of the most underrated comic book characters in Marvel’s massive roster of characters. If you know, you know! Plus Spectrum is coming in hot with a brand new Leadership for a whole new Affiliation. That’s pretty exciting. So let’s take a look at the rules for these new heroes!

Blue Marvel

I’ll be honest here: I think Blue Marvel could have been a Threat 6. He might not be a hero that comes to mind for many folks but hardcore comic fans know that the Blue Marvel is a secret powerhouse. He’s a living anti-matter reactor. No seriously, it’s not just one of his super powers on the card. Anyhow, I won’t get into his entire back story because that’s not the focus of this article. So let’s get to his in game power set.

I think we need to start off with that whole Living Anti-Matter Reactor first. Basically, Skulls count as successes anytime he’s attacking, defending, or dodging. Combine that with his Hyper Cosmic Awareness and he’s also gaining an additional power any time he rolls a Skull, too. Essentially, that means his attacks are even more consistent than average. Furthermore, for 3 power, you can also use the Anti-Matter Barrier to allow him or an allied character within range 3 to reroll defense dice — including Skulls.

Speaking of defense, he’s rocking a 4/4/4 for defense dice and 7/6 in the stamina department. He’s size 2 with a medium move and is clocking in at Threat 5. Those are very respectable stats when you take into account the previous paragraph. He’s also packing a throw for 3 energy that can toss size 4 things medium. Not too shabby!

Attack-wise, his builder is an energy based Anti-Matter Blast which is an impressive range 4 for 6 dice. Wilds also cause stun. His spender is called Let Loose and it’s an AoE range 2 that rolls 8 dice and costs 5 energy. However, there’s a potential to do a bunch of extra chip damage thanks to the Energy Pulse that needs a crit and wild to trigger. That’s just free damage!

Finally, he’s got Flight and is immune to both Incinerate and Stun. I don’t know where I can fit him in my lists but I’m going to find a place for Blue Marvel. He seems like a solid all-arounder and if you can keep your team mates close you’ll get good value out of his defensive boosts. I can’t wait to roll attacks with him and count those skulls as successes!

Spectrum

Monica Rambeau, aka Spectrum, is charging in with a new leadership. Stronger Together Than Apart is for the upcoming Mighty Avengers Affiliation. It basically allows you to transfer power around your team. When a character would generate energy during their turn they can opt to generate 1 less. Then you can give that energy to another allied character. This seems like a good way to shuffle power to the big hitters in your list.

Statwise, she’s coming in with a defensive line of 3/4/4 with 6/6 stamina. She’s size 2 with a Long move so she’s zippy for a Threat 4. Her basic builder is Gamma Strike which is a range 2 attack for 6 dice. It only gives her 1 energy after the attack but it does cause a stun on a wild. Photo Blast is another builder that gives her 1 energy per attack. However, it’s a Beam 4 so there’s a chance you can get more than 1 energy off this attack. it’s 4 dice and you get free re-rolls on this one, too. Now we get to her Pulsar Wave, which if you look at the statline of range 3, 8 dice, and 0 energy, you might be thinking “something seems off here…” And you’d be right:

I seriously doubt this attack will be free once it gets corrected. It’s also got a throw on a wild, has different attack-type options, and allows you to place Spectrum within range 1 of their current position. So yeah…there’s no way that stays a free attack! We’ll be looking for the errata on that one.

Her other abilities are Energy Boost and Multi-Spectrum Energy Absorption. For 2 energy you can use Energy Boost to give two dice to an attacking ally or herself. That’s just two extra dice — nothing bad about that one. Now, on the defense, her Multi-Spectrum Energy Absorption allows her a sort of “Reverse Pierce” ability. Anytime she rolls a wild on the defense, she can change an attackers crit, wild, or hit to a blank. And she gets an energy for each dice change in that way. Honestly, that’s kind of mean! I can get behind that…

Team Tactic Cards

As for the Team Tactic Cards, I’ve added them below for completeness sake. Overall, I think they each have access to some nice utility. I think Spectrum is the clear winner in terms of numbers of cards though. That seems fitting for a new leader in the game.

I’m still curious as to who else you can take in the Mighty Avengers Roster. Obviously we’ve got the nod to Elsa Bloodstone above …but that’s an unaffiliated card. I want to know who else is likely to show up in her Roster to get a better gauge of how I think these cards stack up. That said…AMG gave us some hints.

Final Teaser – Mighty Avengers?

There’s a couple of teasers in the article from AMG. First up, there’s the very obvious “Sample Mighty Avengers” roster:

  • Spectrum
  • Blue Marvel
  • Ant-Man
  • Captain Marvel, Cosmic Avenger

That’s pretty straight forward. There’s also this line from the article:

“She has served as a team leader and mentor to many a hero, and was even considered the most powerful Avenger on a team alongside multiple gods and kings.”

Hmm…multiple Gods and Kings? Who could that be referring to? Gee, can you think of any other Gods or Kings that were also Avengers? I’m pretty sure there’s at least a couple versions of Thor that fit the bill. Or how about Black Panther?

Finally, check out the art above. We’ve got Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and also America Chavez included. I doubt that Shuma-Gorath is a member of the team there. Considering we’re getting America Chavez and the Dark Dimension Terrain, I think it’s pretty safe to assume this art is a tease/confirmation of other Might Avengers.

That said, I do sort of hope that the Dark Dimension Terrain gives us rules for a Shuma-Gorath encounter…

Pre-Orders Out Now

Blue Marvel and Spectrum are on the way. They are up for pre-order now and have a shipping date of January 9th, 2026.

Marvel: Crisis Protocol – Blue Marvel & Spectrum $42.99

This pack brings two new characters to Marvel: Crisis Protocol, the powerhouse Blue Marvel and the leader of the Mighty Avengers Spectrum to the game. The Mighty Avengers is an exciting mixture of characters from the Marvel: Crisis Protocol catalogue, making it extremely compelling for veteran players with large collections. Blue Marvel adds a new 5 Threat to both Defenders and the Mighty Avengers Affiliations.
