The Maggotkin of Nurgle have a massive wave of new reinforcements on the way for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. Time for a closer look!
When it disease and plague Nurgle has the market cornered. And by the looks of these new Maggotkin miniatures, Ol’Papa Nurgle is spreading some of that love around. While they aren’t quite as gross as previous incarnations, they are still gnarly looking. But take a closer look for yourself. We’ve got them in the studio and the hands on speaks volumes.
Festus The Leechlord
Of all the new Maggotkin releases, I think Festus got the best glow-up of the batch. He was always nasty looking but now he’s riding a massive leech. Not only does that fit his name but it adds more to that “ick” factor than before. I really can’t wait to see what the community does when they get their hands on this model.
Sloven Knights
This is a new unit and very much in line with the direction GW is taking Maggotkin. They are clearly diseased but more on that “mutated disease” train vs the “rotting and still fighting” side of Nurgle. I’m just glad to see the Maggotkin get some new mounted knights personally.
Court of Gelgus
Well, that didn’t take TOO long. These were first available in Warhammer Quest: Dark Water. Now they are coming to the tabletop as a unit very soon. I think that Gelgus makes a great looking Daemon Prince miniature. Perhaps he’s going to be awesome conversion fodder in the future. I also really like the Belga the Cystwitch miniature. That giant maggot on the base is both on brand and gross.

Rotswords
The Rotswords are also a new unit and another one I think Maggotkin players will be glad to see. They are new Infantry and pack some heavier armor than most. I think this unit will find a home as tanky frontline objective holders. I’m betting based on Nurgle’s blessings that they are going to be extra tough to displace. But we’ll have to wait and see how this one shakes out. That said, I do like the direction this particular unit has gone. The armor and antlers is a nice nod to the type of “blessings” Nurgle grants.
Pestigors
The Pestigors are back with new miniatures also! These were a part of the Warhammer Quest: Dark Water release but they are getting repackaged as a unit box, too. While I did have a soft spot for the previous version, I’m glad to see the new plastic kit making it’s way into the Maggotkin releases. I think this is another unit that will be pretty useful but I need to see their rules before I decide. Still, the new models do look cool and once again on brand for Maggotkin and Nurgle.
Putrid Blight Kings
Finally, the last new release we’re looking at is the updated Putrid Blight Kings. I said this previously but I think these models showcase the new direction GW is taking the Maggotkin the most. Why? Because they had previous miniatures. And when you see them side-by-side, you can tell the new miniatures are very different.
I don’t hate this new look. But is it a different direction. And it’s kind of odd to me. The more I look at them the more they remind me of priests in togas or something. They seem to have taken on a new role in the army as well. I am curious to see what that ends up looking like on the tabletop as well. Whatever happens these new miniatures do look like a cool unit to try and paint up. There’s quite a contrast in materials and textures to paint. We’ve got the softer cloth and skin vs the harder metals and antlers. And some of the skin is “heathy” while parts are also diseased and bloated. If you’re a hobbyist I feel like GW just threw down the gauntlet with these miniatures. Good luck!
The Maggotkin of Nurgle are going up for Pre-order this weekend. Just be sure to wash your hands…
