It’s time to look at the third Chaos Battleforce Box coming. It’s the Thousand Sons turn to bust out the mathhammer!

By now I hope you’ve seen the announcement for these Battleforces along with my thoughts on each. We did this once already for the Lords of Excess as well as the Khorne Daemonkin boxes. Well now it’s time for the Thousand Sons and their Sekhment Coven to get the same treatment. Can this cabal of sorcerers crack the case? Or at least their enemies on the tabletop? Let’s hope so! And maybe they’ll give our wallets a nice break, too.

If the price point is the same as the Christmas Battleforces of $250 then I think this is a moderately good deal. Honestly, I think if you’re starting an Thousand Sons army this is a good purchase. You’ll likely never need any more Terminators or Sorcerers again!

The next purchase for this one beyond the Codex is probably the Combat Patrol. I like the way these two boxes don’t overlap in terms of units. I also feel like the Tzaagors and Rubric Marines are a core part of the Thousand Sons army in 40k. I also mentioned this before but I do think that this box set in particular has a big nod to Space Marine 2 in terms of unit selection. If you played the Campaign and the extra missions, you know what I mean.

Overall, I do think this is a good starting point for a new Thousand Sons army. The discount isn’t quite as crazy as we’ve seen but again, that depends on the final price point.

Sekhmet Coven Points

Once again, we’re going to use the official points to break this part down. So please check my math.

Going based on the image above and pointing this one out to match, I’m getting 885. That’s based on taking all three of the Exalted Sorcerers with one being on a Disc of Tzeentch and the other one not. So that’s a nice chunk of points to work with for sure. Plus all those Scarab Occult Terminators are going to be one heck of a brick to deal with! Plus that Mutalith Vortex Beast is GOING to cause problems for your opponent.

Depending on what detachment and enhancements you want to use you’re going to end up with around 1100 points to play around with. Which is still plenty to work with. The Thousand Sons have access to some of the most powerful spell-slingers around, too. Between Magnus, Ahriman, Lords of Change, and Kairos, you’ve got LOTS to work with. There’s no shortage of “centerpiece” miniatures for this army that’s for sure!

Where you go from this battleforce box is up to you. It’s starting out with a couple of bricks to throw at your opponent with the Terminators and Mutalith. You could lean in to those harder or you could opt for more support options. Heck, you could also gather up more casters for your coven and overwhelm them with psykers. You do you, heretic. You do you.
