A new archer unit and chariots for the Ossiarch Bonereapers are a massive nod to the past. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

I’ve been a big fan of the Ossiarch Bonereapers since they were announced. Scratch that. My fanboy of that army actually started with the release of the Morghast Archai. I knew as soon as those models came out that if GW ever made an army full of bone constructs/golems I’d be in. And then they went ahead and brought in the Ossiarch Bonereapers and I was hooked.

Fastforward a few years and the OBR line has been pretty set. There’s been new characters added here and there but it was really when the Warhammer: Underworlds Warband dropped that I knew something was cooking from GW.

Why was there an archer in this warband? You’re telling me that the Ossiarch Bonereapers had bows?! Where my unit of archers at?! Well…those questions wouldn’t be answered for another (almost) 5 years.

I really can’t wait to get these on the tabletop now. But the preview had a few other surprises baking from GW. The next most obvious thing was the chariot.

It was mentioned during the show but really, when you look at the OBR Range and what Nagash is really wanting to do with them, you can tell that he just wants his Khemri back. I mean, I wrote this up way back in 2019. There’s loads of examples of how long this has been baking in the GW oven.

I think you get the idea. And now we’re getting two more units back from the dead.

So that’s happening. But the new units are a welcome update, too!

Ossiarch Bonereapers – The New Blood Bone

The new Liege-Mortek seems like a nice addition. He certainly seems more of a “lead from the front” type. I’m also glad he’s going to come with various melee weapons. The OBR range has plenty of magic-slingers so having a new melee-centric character is nice. Not that the Liege Kavalos is a bad option or anything but he’s also calvary-based. So an infantry hero to fight with other infantry units is nice.

The other big surprise are the new Mortis Reapers. Theses “Assassin” types are interesting. I was going back through the old Tomb King range trying to figure out what inspired this unit. Really, the closest thing I could think of was the Tomb Scorpion. The idea that these guys can sort of pass through terrain is similar to how the Tomb Scorpion would pop-up from the underground. Sure, they look very different but conceptually, I think they fill similar roles.

Regardless, I’m really excited to see the new Ossiarch Bonereapers army. I’ve been on a Chaos Warrior kick for a long time now so I might be time to bust out the ol’boney boys and see how they do when their new Battletome drops. I’m pretty sure I have all the models for the Spearhead so now is a great time for me to get some practice with them. I gotta shake the dust off my bones!

Whats next for the Ossiarch Bonereapers? Necropolis Archers? A new Bone-based Necrosphinx? Mounted Archer Kavalos? No seriously…we need all of those.
