Relentless Discipline has another rework for the Ossiarch Bonereapers. It’s time for an Ossiarch Bonereapers rules preview!
The Armies of Death march once again on the Mortal Realms. Katakros and the Ossiarch Bonereapers are bringing their relentless pursuit of Nagash’s plans to the tabletop. Today we get a bit more info on their army-wide Relentless Disciple rules and how those work. We also get a peek at Katakros and how he can essentially lose his temper and hulk-out.
Ossiarch Bonereapers Rules Preview
The first thing to know is how Relentless Disciple points will be gained and spent. The generation method is very simple. It’s based on the heroes you’re taking to the tabletop. Mounted and chariot-riding Leige-Kavalos will generate 6 points. Mortisans will generate 2 points each. Meanwhile, Katakros will generate a whopping 10 relentless discipline points per battle round! That said, these points don’t carry over round-to-round. So use’em or lose’em!
So what can you actually use them for? You’re going to be spending them like crazy…
Most RELENTLESS DISCIPLINE abilities costs either 1 relentless discipline point, or 2 if the unit using it is reinforced and has more than half of its starting models. Remorseless March lets you swiftly advance a unit, while Impassive Retreat allows units who have retreated to charge back into the fray. Ruthless Extermination improves the efficacy of ranged attacks against those pesky ward rolls, Pitiless Assault adds 1 to a unit’s wound rolls in combat, and the Inviolate Legions ability confers Ward (5+) as your soldiers adopt defensive positions.

In many ways, this version of Relentless Disciple in basically a return to the “Command Points but totally not Command Points” version of these rules. You’re effectively going to be spending them to activate additional abilities or to trigger other effects. What I think is more interesting about these rules are the abilities themselves. We clearly got some teasers from above but I wonder what else GW is packing for the OBR.
Katakros Rages
On top of the changes to Relentless Disciple, we’re also getting some new options for Katakros. One of his signature abilities is Supreme Lord of the Bonereaper Legions. This ability allows him to spend relentless discipline points to allow a unit to “use two fight abilities” in a single phase. For the vast majority of units, that means they get to fight twice. It can be expensive but it should be a small price to pay to double-tap with a unit!
Another ability is Katakros’ aptly named You Dare?! which is something I can’t wait to say/use on the tabletop. This one gives him a potent boost in close combat. However, to actually use it at least half of your starting units have to have been destroyed. Also, to be fair, if Katakros is having to directly engage with the enemy, I think something has gone horribly wrong already…
The new battletome and more are coming for the Ossiarch Bonereapers. Are you ready to pay your portion of the Bone Tithe?
I really want to see what other abilities RDP can be used for…
