TTRPG kaiju, action figures, Napoleonic dragons, RPG art installations, third-party Legend in the Mist, Mothership, and short D&D adventures await!
This week’s crowdfunding sampler looks at campaigns that close between March 26 to April 8. I’ve included options that involve kaiju, action figures, alternate history, physical art experiences, great gaming systems, and more. In addition, I want to shout out 7th Sea 3rd Edition on Kickstarter. A decade ago, 7th Sea 2nd Edition was the first million dollar TTRPG crowdfunding campaign, so it’ll be interesting to see how its successor shakes out.

- WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? In the fantasy Realm of Mythoss, there are 10 factions vying for control of the land. Choose your faction, know your enemies, customize your character/action figure, and prepare to fight for control. Mythic Legions is a line of 7-inch fantasy action figures created by Four Horsemen Toy Design Studio a decade ago. The toyline supports multiple waves of figures each year, a spin-off line of sci-fi figures, video games, and a dedicated convention. The action figures were always intended to have an RPG element, even mentioned in the first Kickstarter in 2015. This iteration of the TTRPG experience uses a variant of the Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition engine and, if you want to use the optional 7-inch action figure rules, you can enhance the combat with your customizable toys. With all of the action figures, this campaign is headed to a million dollars, but you can choose just the RPG elements with the beginners boxed set ($45) or the core rulebook (a light $40, when most core rulebooks are $50 to $60). Great minds, powerful fighters, loyal to their riders, these dragons reshape the familiar histories of our world. Most of the events that you associate with Napoleon still occur, but add in the British Aerial Corps with dragons big enough to carry a crew like sailing ships of the era. - WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? The Mist Engine is a dynamic, interactive version of the Powered by the Apocalypse ruleset. Using a descriptor-based system, you add each applicable tag to your 2d6 roll. But where this system ramps up the player engagement is the limited number of descriptor slots your character has. Over time, you’ll drop a spell for a weapon or resolve a motivation while you gain a new one, which will continue to evolve your character and their personal story as well as their descriptors. Beyond the Woods uses the fantasy version of the Mist Engine and pairs it with an Irish-inspired folk setting. Leave the last great city, explore ruins, work together to survive, and discover a world filled with wonder. This officially licensed project combines the character depth of Legend in the Mist with a dark and fae setting, perfect for gamers that want to invest in character stories amid an emerald isle.

Exalted Funeral, the publisher that combines the punk rock attitude of indie record distributors with old school awesomeness like Land of Eem, Monty Python, Mausritter, UVG, and Old-School Essentials has something new: An art installation experienced as a TTRPG. MEOW WOLF is a group of artists that make immersive art experiences in Santa Fe, Texas, Denver, and Las Vegas. Their ideas are big, unusual, and gonzo, but they tell an engaging tale. Exalted Funeral and Tiger Wizard work with these artists to present their worlds for your gaming table. The game is collaborative storytelling, items have shapes and have to fit on your character sheet like a puzzle, dreams provide skills, and the story is shaped by decisions both logical and whimsical.
