• WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? In the golden age of pirates and sails, you’re the main character. Magic, artifacts, mystery, politics, treasure, and swinging from ship to ship while dealing death and you’re the focus of this story; your actions change the fate of nations and your shipmates. In 2016, the second edition of 7th Sea was the first ever million dollar TTRPG Kickstarter. French publisher Studio Agate licensed 7th Sea from Chaosium to make this new edition, and they hired Andrew Peregrine, one of the most outspoken boosters for 7th Sea. Dungeon Damsel Publishing was one of the first third-party creators to embrace the Shadowdark RPG with 2023’s Unnatural Selection (a project I interviewed her about here). For 2026, Xane and Bunni Daniel (the founders of Dungeon Damsel Publishing) are making their setting available as a 4-volume set for Shadowdark. Druskara is a world where gloom obscures the sun, harvests are rare, food is rationed, and the world is in decline. In this sandbox, you’re facing rival factions and reaching for forbidden magics to survive. In four books – Spells and Specialties at 162 pages, Realms and Rivals at 410 pages, Tombs and Temples at 300 pages, and Fangs and Fortune clocking in at 170 pages – you’ll find the classes, monsters, spells, NPCs, setting, and everything you need to bring this dying world to life. This Kickstarter is the culmination of that ambition. The campaign offers a new core rulebook as well as the Hazar, City of a Thousand Guilds campaign setting, Cavern of the Petrified Throne campaign, and an 80-page solo quest, The Wailing City complete with rules reminders on the inside covers. HBO optioned the universe, though they did not move forward with it at the time. Viola Davis is working with Stranger Comics to realize this setting as a series or movie. With this Kickstarter, Stranger Comics is adding more comics and a 5.5e RPG module. This is not TTRPG content, but hats off to Mike Pondsmith for creating a game that continues to find fans in video games, streaming, card games, and, of course, at the RPG gaming table.
