The first part of the Griffon’s Saddlebag is, ironically, the second part of the book to arrive on D&D Beyond. But it’s packed full of stuff.

The second half of The Griffon’s Saddlebag has arrived on D&D Beyond. Though weirdly enough, it’s actually the first part of the book. The actual “second part” of the book, ‘Book Two’ was the first to hit D&D Beyond, arriving back in December of 2024 if you can believe such a time ever existed. But now The Griffon’s Saddlebag: Book One is here, and with it? A ton of extra stuff, including 12 new subclasses, a new species, four campaign settings, a new griffon-inspired species option, and a like 365 new magic items.

The Griffon’s Saddlebag: Book One – Now On D&D Beyond

The Griffon’s Saddlebag: Book One (and Book Two) is a compilation of magic items taken from the popular column, The Griffon’s Saddlebag, where the creator makes new magic items regularly (I think they’re at almost 2,000 by this point). And in the first book, the original 365 magic items – made one a day in the original run – are on display.

You’ll find magic items like the Aegis of Radiance, a magical shield that can also protect you as a field of radiance, or Death Knell, a magical halberd that rings out a deathly gong whenever you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with it and potentially damages nearby enemies.

But it’s more than just a bunch of new magic items. As mentioned there are twelve new classes – one for each of the core D&D classes. You can become a frosty Barbarian, or find out just how improved the improved Shillelagh of a Druid of the Unbroken Circle is. Each of these is designed to work in 5.5E, which may be why Book One is arriving on D&D Beyond after Book Two.

“Expand your treasury with the original collection from the Saddlebag. The Griffon’s Saddlebag: Book 1 is a 200+ page compendium of the initial year’s worth of daily magic items from The Griffon’s Saddlebag. The collection is rounded out even further with new character-and world-building options for players and game masters to enjoy. This book is perfect for anyone looking to make their treasure – and games – more rewarding!”

You can also get your hands on a new species, the Feathren, who are like humanoid griffons. Or you can explore the depths of four different settings, giving you places to explore in any sort of campaign. All of which can be yours in The Griffon’s Sadlebag: Book One.

Also, if you have Book Two on D&D Beyond already, you’ll get an automatic discount on the new one. And if you have neither, you can grab both as part of a bundle.
