The new City of Ash Spearhead box is up for pre-order this weekend. It’s loaded with new minis so come check them out!
If you are a Cities of Sigmar or Skaven fan or if you’re just looking to dive into Spearhead games this new City of Ash boxed set is for you. It’s got two full Spearhead armies in there as well as a new board and terrain so you can start playing immediately. Today, we’re just going to admire the new miniatures from the box. First up, we’ve got the Skaven!
City of Ash – Skaven
Leading the charge for the Skaven we have Deathmaster Crixxit. This model is really impressive as he’s basically a Deathmaster dialed up to 11. I can respect a ninja assassin that’s this showy! He’s got to be a terror if he’s willing to perch on that rubble, right? Anyhow, It’s a wonderfully detailed miniature and I think this is one the hobbyist side will really enjoy painting up.
We all like the ratbomb, right? Honestly, this is kind of terrifying when you think of the implications.
I also really like the Gutter Runner “leader” miniature as well. At first I thought this was a new Deathmaster, but alas, it’s not. But that’s okay anyhow. He’s leading the Gutter Runners and you can see them and some of the Night Runners below.
Both of these squads have a role to fill. The Night Runners might be the lowest on the totem pole but they make for a good screen unit and can quite literally toss out attacks at range. The Gutter Runners are a bit more skilled in melee and will make for a nice “surprise” for the enemy. Overall, I’m liking the Skaven unit updates/additions from this box. I’m looking forward to seeing more of this style of Skaven on the tabletop in AoS.
City of Ash – Cites of Sigmar
The Cities of Sigmar force is lead by Jorvan Kreel and his loyal ash panther.
These are neat miniatures for sure. I didn’t really think about the fact that Kreel is basically standing on top of the rubble of some roof. I think it’s a subtle nod that he’s not all brawn when it comes to tactics or abilities. He’s the heir of the Kraken after all! He’s a leader but he’s not loaded up in heavy plate like the Gallants for example. It’s an interesting idea. Also, that’s a cool ash panther, too!
The Forgepriest is certainly a callback to other Sigmarite Priests from the World-That-Was. It’s kind of a basic sculpt, but a classic pose.
The Grenadiers are a while looking unit! Loaded up with guns, explosives, and a flame thrower, this unit is ready to bring the pain. I like how each of the sculpts is a mini-character, too.
The Gallants are kind of on the other end of the spectrum in terms of character to me. Loaded up with heavy armor they are Knights-on-Foot. I do like that you can mix their faces in there or just go with blank helmets. There unit leader also looks like he’s ready to deliver some pain of his own.
City of Ash – Terrain
Finally, we have the Terrain in the box. I really like this set of ruins. It’s playable and it looks like how I image a City of Sigmar to look…after it’s been burned. Personally, I hope GW gives us some more kits like this for terrain. One day, I hope we get a “non-destroyed” building kit. Imagine if we had that and it was designed in such a way folks could apply their own battle damage to it. Kind of like a “pre-destroyed” version and a “destroyed” version. Oh well.
Again, the Cities of Ash is up for pre-order this weekend from Games Workshop. So keep an eye out for this one if you’re interested!
The City might be ash but the battle is just beginning.
