- WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Have you read the joke where someone posts a sentence and the punchline is, At no point while reading that sentence did I know what was going to be said next? With that yuk-yuk in-mind, here’s the pitch this this game: “HELLWHALERS is an original GM-led token swapping & d6 based TTRPG of nautical and religious horror. Players take the role of damned whalers hunting a monstrous whale across the oceans of hell for the promise of salvation; gambling, fishing, and facing the trials of hell along the way.” The idea of a more overtly religious Moby Dick combined with more stereotypical view of sailors to produce an original TTRPG that’s getting a sourcebook speaks to the creativity and possibilities that can be discovered with roleplaying games. Let’s be honest, there’s niche and then there’s the idea of hunting the whale is literal salvation. This 40-page zine gives you more hell to throw at your crew. May I Enter: A Vampire Game from High Level Games

- WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? What if vampires were bound to do good? What if they could only feed with consent? What if their powers had to be used to improve the world? Those concepts would turn a vampire story on its head, leading to monsters-as-heroes. There have been games of heroic vampires, but it was a choice, not a compulsion. In May I Enter, Helen of Troy cast a spell and you’re bound to do the right thing because of it. Using a variant of the Powered by the Apocalypse engine, this game pits you against supernatural forces and vampires that managed to counter Helen’s curse even as you must maintain a social network of feeders and friends as you work to save the world. The Tabletop Inn: A Board Game Bed & Breakfast from Mike Belsole and Grace Kendall

- WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Stay at a board game bed and breakfast near Asheville, NC, a small art city secreted away in the Appalachians. You and your friends share rooms, games, and breakfast. The owners, Mike Belsole and Grace Kendall of the “multi–award–winning riddle-solving party game Smug Owls is published by the incredible two-person team of Gwen Ruelle and Sam Bryant at Runaway Parade Games”, will be their to cook you up a great meal and help you run board games (they have 600 games to choose from). If 8 fans did 4 days/3 nights, that’d be $206.25 a head. The 4-day pass for Gen Con is $155 a person and you still need to pay for a place to stay. In fact, the total for the pair of Tabletop Inn suites is nearly the same as the cost of my single hotel room for Gen Con, no badge. While this is TTRPG-adjacent, it’s still a cool idea and more affordable than it might appear at first glance. If you’re a board game fan thinking about a vacation, this is a neat idea. If you’re a GM with a TTRPG bed and breakfast or a gamer that’s attended one, I’d love to hear about the experience.
