After leaving Wizards of the Coast, former D&D VP Jess Lanzillo has landed as White Wolf’s new creative director.

It seems like only yesterday that former VP of D&D Jess Lanzillo announced her last day at WotC. And now, WotC’s loss is White Wolf’s gain as Lanzillo steps up as the new Creative Director for the World of Darkness. This injection of fresh blood will hopefully revitalize Vampire: the Masquerade, giving the venerable (some might even say antediluvian) RPG of secret supernatural societies a new perspective. But WoD puns aside, the news seems exciting, especially as Lanzillo reveals she’s been a longtime fan of the series.

Jess Lanzillo, New Creative Director For White Wolf’s World of Darkness

Lanzillo’s new role means she will be responsible for all things World of Darkness. This includes Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Hunter: The Reckoning, and hopefully more stuff for Mage. According to the press release announcing White Wolf’s new Creative Director, Lanzillo will focus on IP development and finding a new vision for the franchise, though it is quick to point out that this means staying true to the game’s roots.

Lanzillo will ensure the brand’s “gothic narrative” stays goth, in other words. So don’t worry that you’ll suddenly have to find a new excuse to wear all that leather and lace. Although, from the press release, it sounds like White Wolf has found an ideal person to step into the lead, with Lanzillo listing the World of Darkness as a “creative north star.”

“World of Darkness has been my creative north star since the ’90s, and I’ve seen firsthand how these games create communities and inspire storytellers. My focus is on supporting and amplifying what makes these worlds special—the rich lore, the player agency, the mature themes—while ensuring they reach everyone who would love them. World of Darkness is so much more than just games; it’s a cultural touchstone with a passionate community and incredible untapped potential.”

That’s Lanzillo herself on the new direction she hopes to find for the franchise.

Meanwhile, White Wolf couldn’t be happier as they look to expand the beleaguered Vampire, which has been through so much in a short time. And Bloodlines 2 *still* isn’t out yet. Here’s what Marco Behrmann, White Wolf Executive Vice President had to say:

“Bringing Jess on board to shape the creative future of World of Darkness is a big win for White Wolf. She’s a world-class Creative Director with deep roots in developing transmedia properties and a sharp instinct for audience-first storytelling. Jess’s experience makes her the perfect fit to lead White Wolf in bold, ambitious ways. Jess is a key pillar of our expanding studio, helping drive a strong and clear creative vision from the heart of our team.”
