Bomb Busters Overview
You know the movie trope where everyone gathers around while someone picks the right color wire to snip? It’s always high stakes and a little anxiety inducing. But at the last moment they cut the right wire and everyone breathes a sigh of relief. Bomb Busters takes that essence and puts it into a silly, cooperative board game with very cute art.
This is a fun, exciting game that can be played relatively quickly. And with more than sixty different scenarios and nearly fifty wires to “cut,” there is a ton of potential for replayability. Bomb Busters is also one of those rare games that’s actually family-friendly. Which is to say that it’s not a kids game that adults can play too, I guess. And it’s not an adults game that some kids can probably play if they happen to be mature or use a watered down version. It’s just a fun, silly game that everyone can actually enjoy.

In Bomb Busters, players take on the role of bomb disposal experts. They diffuse bombs by cutting right wires and leaving the dangerous ones alone. Each player has part of the wire puzzle that they must use to determine safe wires from live wire, and if a bomb is detonated everyone loses. So every player must work together to diffuse the bombs. A game of Bomb Busters is won by cutting all wires but the red one. Or, a game is lost when a bomb explodes either with bad snip or one too many bad guesses. The game comes with many different scenarios and missions and many different levels. This means that there are multiple levels of difficulty you can play with as well as many different requirements and setup instructions
How To Play Bomb Busters

To start a game, players select a mission card with setup instructions and and requirements for that specific mission. Cards also have rules specific to that mission. Players will then assign a captain and distribute tiles and wire pieces. Each wire regular has a corresponding number, but there are also yellow and red wires. Red ones are the live, dangerous wires. Yellow aren’t dangerous, but they keep things interesting and harder to guess. Once the wires are distributed, players place wires on their stand in numerical order, place tokens and pieces in their spots, set the detonation dial to the position with the number of players playing and take any necessary equipment cards.

Each turn players take turns cutting. This is done by guessing, assuming, or deducing which wires around the table may correspond to what number. If correct, the wire is cut and successfully removed from gameplay. When the guess is incorrect, a token will mark that the wire has been cut and what number it turned out to be. If the incorrectly identified wire turned out to be red, it will explode, ending the mission immediately. Incorrect guesses will move the detonation. Incorrect guesses will also make the detonation spinner move forward one space. Once the detonation spinner reaches the skull mark, the bomb also explodes and ends the game.
Should I Buy This Game?
Games like this can either be a lot of fun, or be very frustrating. And a lot of that hinges less on the game itself and more on the people playing it. Are you someone who enjoys logic puzzles and games of deduction? Is losing in a spectacular (and fake) explosion sometimes a fun part of the game, or a huge annoyance? Do you enjoy games you can sit down and play a few rounds of quickly before moving on? Or do you need something substantial to seek your teeth into? If you’ve read through this description and think that Bomb Busters sounds like a lot of fun, I honestly think it will be. It’s great at being simple, quick, silly, and fun.
