The temporal wormhole we got caught up in has sent us back to 2018, right about when the second supplemental rulebook for the first edition of Star Trek™ Adventures released: The Operations Division! The book continued the trend started with The Command Division supplement, adding a wealth of new lore, mechanics, and guidance to the game beyond what was found in the first edition core rulebook.

The book provided a wealth of lore concerning all things Operations division, including information on Starfleet fleet operations, Starfleet Intelligence, the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, and the mysterious Section 31 (even before Star Trek: Discovery added more lore about Section 31!). There’s also a section on experimental engineering that covers some of the bleeding-edge technologies at work in the Star Trek universe. Technical-focused sidebars are not to be missed, as well.

The book also provided engineering and security gamers with new options for character roles, talents, example focuses, more devices and starship systems to use in-game, plot components focused on security and engineering personnel, and a wide variety of non-player characters, including Luther Sloan, Admiral John Harriman, and Doctor Leah Brahms.

Closing out the book was a short chapter titled RED ALERT, which offered an optional set of miniatures-focused combat rules using the 2d20 system and miniatures. These rules are also available as a free download on the Modiphius website.

For the release of the game’s second edition in 2024, we revised much of the book’s mechanical content for inclusion in the new core rulebook. The rest of it we held in reserve, waiting for a good time in which to release.

And that time is now.

As with The Command Division book, Nathan Dowdell, 2d20 System Designer, and I (but mostly Nathan) combed through The Operations Division and revised the remaining mechanical contents to the second edition standard, and compiled those revisions into a document you can download right now, for free. Whether you own the book or not, you can grab this free download and add a wealth of content to your second edition games right away.

And if you haven’t bought the book yet, the digital edition remains available for sale. The second edition revision document will be added to the download package for the book as well as the Star Trek Adventures download page.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little trip through time and I hope you enjoy the free goodies contained in The Operations Division download file. Now, let’s see if our crack team of engineers and scientists can figure out how to artificially generate a new temporal wormhole so that we can get back to our time…
