Games Workshop has move a ton of units from the Liber books to an upcoming Legacy PDF for the Horus Heresy.
There’s been a bit of an uproar in the Horus Heresy community lately. Why? A bunch of units were removed from their respective army lists via the new Liber books. Fans were concerned that their armies became invalidated. And hey, we see you and we get it.
The good news is that Games Workshop sees you, too. They are looking to put out the fire a bit with some more info on the Legacies of the Age of Darkness PDF. Now, this was already pre-planned and announced but the full weight wasn’t really felt. That was until folks started to notices what was missing in the Liber books.
“Hopefully this article will reassure you that those Tartaros Terminators with power fists, Destroyers with jump packs and lovingly converted White Scars Champions on bikes won’t be resigned to a life on the shelf.”
Legacies of the Age of Darkness
Popping over to the WarCom Article, there’s a massive list of units from all the various armies that will be included in the free PDF. Now, I’m not going to list the entire run of units. But here’s a the list of Legion Agnostic options:
- Veteran Breacher Squad
- Veteran Heavy Support Squad
- Tartaros Terminator Siege Squad
- Indomitus Terminator Squad
- Mortalis Destroyer Squad
- Destroyer Assault Squad
- Castra Ferrum Dreadnought
- Land Raider Achilles
- Caestus Assault Ram
- Attack Bike Squadron
- Scout Squad
- Legion Basilisk
- Legion Medusa
- Thunderhawk Transporter
- Praetorian Command Squad on Scimitar Jetbikes
- Praetorian Command Squad on Outrider Bikes
- Warmonger Consul
- Forge Lord
- Primus Medicae
- Pathfinder
- Delegatus
- Armistos
- Mortificator
And that’s just for the Legiones Astartes. Again, there are Legion specific units also being moved to the PDF. Games Workshop did go over the “why” for these changes.
As for use of these units in Tournaments GW is leaving that up to the Tournament Organizers. However, it’s worth noting that GW is planning to allow these Legacy Units at their own official Warhammer: The Horus Heresy events. That’s basically a thumbs-up to Tournament Organizers that these rules are good to use — but it’s still up to them.
Now, while the list of Legacy Units is fairly long there are still missing options. GW does call those out:
Basically, if the unit didn’t have a miniature it’s not going to be in the Legacies PDF. That does include certain units that had rules but no miniatures were produced. It does sound like GW is leaving the door open to re-introducing those units at a later date.
Bring On The Legacies PDF
The Legacies PDF is coming soon. It will be available shortly after the new edition releases officially on July 26th. So don’t go out and set your units on fire in protest. At least wait until you get a look at the Legacies PDF first.
Don’t nuke your army just yet. There’s more stuff coming for the Horus Heresy!
