Games Workshop is teasing a pair of Armies of Renowned coming in the Blades of Khorne Battletome. Field an entire army of Bloodthirsters!

There’s a new Blade of Khorne Battletome on the horizon and within it’s blood soaked pages you’ll find full details for a pair of Armies of Renown, new heroes, Regiments of Renown, and of course their Spearhead rules. Today we’re going to focus on two of the Armies of Renown: The Baleful Lords and the Gorechosen Champions. Up first, we have the Bloodthirsters!

” …The Baleful Lords are behemoths of carnage. The proud tradition of an army of “just big guys” reigns supreme here, with abilities that supercharge your already formidable monsters.”

That’s rightl, folks. If you want to run all the Bloodthirsters you can shove in a single army then The Baleful Lords is where it’s at! Honestly, looking at 4 or 5 Bloodthirsters across the table is a pretty intimidating sight. They hit hard and are unsurprisingly mean. And they really don’t like mages.

Mage-Eaters gives them a 3+ roll to Unbind a spell that targeted one of them. And if the roll is 5+ then it’s a possible D3 mortal damage to the caster. Ouch. And if that wasn’t bad enough, there’s also the Bellow of Hatred that can stop other units in combat with the target from using commands.

Now, these are just TWO of the nasty tricks that The Baleful Lords are bringing. That said, I don’t know how many more “tricks” they need on the tabletop — it’s a pack of Bloodthirsters! I’d be curious to see how they fare against a Sons of Behemat list. Talk about the big-boys going to town.

Sidenote, if you want to run Skarbrand in your other Chaos Armies he’ll be available in his own Regiment of Renown. Just wanted to toss that out there because I’m fan of Skarbrand.

Blades of Khorne – Gorechosen Champions

Next up, instead of running all the big guys how about we run those champions of Khorne still trying to make a name for themselves. The Gorechosen Champions is an Army of Renown made up entirely of mortal heroes from the ranks of the Blades of Khorne. This is where your Khorne Lords and deadly Deathbringers will feel right at home.

Two abilities they are getting are The Red God’s Eye and Legendary Slayers. Both of which are extremely handy for the Gorechosen Champions to have. a 4+ ward and Crit (Mortal) as passives seems pretty good — especially on these close combat butchers.

“A single heroic trait adds a frankly obscene 20 to a hero’s Control score while in combat, letting you take the fight to objectives without worry, while three artefacts provide extra damage, a chance at Strike-first, and protection from shooting attacks – and a deployment ability ensures you’ll be carrying two at all times.”

Those extra traits also sound REALLY promising. Adding 20 to a Control Score can make a hero a great option to take and hold objectives essentially solo. There’s also the fact that you can get some gnarly buffs from the Slaughterpriests and Realmgore Ritualists, too.

These are just a pair of the Prayers the Blades of Khorne will get access to. There’s also the Eruption of Apoplexy which sounds gross. It causes super heated gore to splash and sear enemies. So yeah…it’s just as gross as I thought.

One final thing to mention is the new Deathbringer hero coming as well. This guy is a boss. He’s got the Kingslayer Axe and can also shut down enemies using Commands nearby on a 5+. Let’s also not forget that you can run him in the Gorechosen Champions list and get those passive boosts, too!
