July on the River Bank has plenty of excitement—most notably the hotly contested cricket match between the Animals of the River Bank and the nearby Hills.

And Tom Marten, the Stoat who runs Musty Farm, is busy as busy, of course: There is always a lot to do to keep a farm going, and the quails he’s raising for their eggs keep escaping, to be found in the most unlikely places.

For everyone else? The hot weather is a delightful excuse to avoid any tasks an Animal doesn’t want to do (such as answering letters and housecleaning) while leaving plenty of time for the things they do want to do, such as picnics and boating expeditions.

This year everyone is interested in the caves a mile or so upstream. In June, the Mouse, Miss Erminia Cupcookie, thought she heard a ghost there, and skeptics and believers alike have been thronging to the caves looking for skeletons and treasure. So far the only unexpected discoveries are a broken bicycle no one recognizes, but that doesn’t mean you might not find something there that everyone else missed! Just watch out for quails.

RiverBank, the cozy game of tea and chaos, is at the printer!
