Let’s look at the Top Black Templar Stratagem combos to pump up your zealot marines on the 40K tabletop.

The Black Templars utilize a lot of stratagems between the three detachments in the Supplement Codex. They range from some protection options all the way to brutal usage of rules to explode the enemy into gory bits.  The army is very much a straightforward killing machine and some of the rules help that. Let’s go through the top 5 that I think are going to be used if someone takes one of the three Detachments in the book.

Devotional Advance!

Detachment – Companions of Vehemence
Devout Push & Hearts Hardened to Duty – Both for 1CP

This is a double duty set of stratagems as you can only use both if you have a Chaplain or Judiciar in the unit being targeted. The Devout Push lets the unit have a 6 inch consolidation move which is very powerful as it lets your giant blobs of death push further into the enemy if needed.  The Heart Hardened by Duty now lets the unit not have to consolidate towards the closet enemy unit and instead let the unit spread out like some kind of murderous amoeba.  This can be a hugely powerful set of rules that could all of a sudden let your 20 man Crusader squad go murder a unit and spread out all over a deployment zone.

Dodge Brothers!

Detachment – Vindication Task Force
Recitation of the Revered – 1CP

This is the simple -1 to be hit stratagems that effects your opponents shooting.  I wish this was also during the fight phase but this can be a helpful way to keep one of your Crusader squads around when they get shot to pieces.  It also means that hopefully a few guys are left so you can surge your way to freedom and get those chainswords blessing the enemy with the Emperor’s fury.

Slash & Advance!

Detachment – Godhammer Assault Force
A Ceaseless Cause – 1CP

This allows a unit that was eligible to fight this phase and is no longer within Engagement range of the enemy at the end of the fight phase a normal move of up to 6″.  It cannot embark within a transport if it disembarked from one this turn.  This could let your unit get to the safety of terrain or at the very least get over to an objective.  Heck you can do it at the end of your opponents fights phase to “move” to an objective and then you can score it at the beginning of your turn.

Righteous Ricochet!

Detachment – Godhammer Assault Force
Blessed Hull – 2CP

This is your -1 damage you can use in your opponents shooting phase on one of your vehicles.  It is a great way to save one of your tanks as well as just ensure your Land Raider stays ready to slay the enemy.  I really wish it was 1CP as it is limited to the shooting phase but there could be some rough interactions with things like the Storm Ravens default -1 damage or the Redemptor dreadnought.

BONUS: OHH YEAH! (For the Emperor)

Detachment – Godhammer Assault Force
Gauntlet of the God Emperor – 1CP

You know what loves going all Koolaid man thru a wall? A Land Raider full of Zealots.  This is the “ignore” terrain stratagem that shows up in all the “vehicle” based detachments.  Do you want Dreadnought going through a wall and punching someone?  How about that Land Raider Redeemer?  Just having the ability to “ignore” terrain can be such an amazing tool to have your box of murderous intent when you are playing Black Templars.

Yes I know I gave you 6 but the first one feels like such a great little combo you can’t leave one without the other.  The Black Templars feel like such a brutal force of crazy people ready to rip and tear for the Emperor.  The changes in the Codex, all the new updates, and just sheer brutality of the army feels very much like a Black Templar army of doom.

No Pity! No Remorse! No Fear!
