Are you looking to get into Halo: Flashpoint but don’t know where to start? That’s okay — Mantic Games has you covered!
Halo: Flashpoint has been making waves with an official release last November and strong post-release support. It helps when you’ve got a plan and a passionate group of folks behind the game. With the newest expansion announced for this October now is a great time to jump in feet first.
But how do you even get started? Mantic Games has a very simple flow chart to follow to help guide you on your journey into Halo: Flashpoint.
“The good news is that it’s pretty simple, so we won’t use up much of the valuable time you could use to do something really exciting – like picking a starter set!“
Getting Started With Halo: Flashpoint
It really is that simple. Honestly, the toughest part is probably finding the right starter set for you. The Recon Edition has everything you and one other player needs to start playing. If you’re looking for the cheapest way to dive in, well, this one is for you.
But if you’re looking for even more options for your Spartan Fireteams (as well as some Banished Elites to try out) then Spartan Edition has you covered. Personally, I went for the Spartan edition to start because I wanted those Elites to try out. But again, everything you need for two players is included with either box. The Spartan edition just has more stuff.
Once you’ve gotten the starter for you you’ll be able to learn the game rules and start playing. Once you’ve got the hang of that, it’s time to take it to the next step: list-building and custom fireteams.
The game uses a simple point-based system to build out fireteams. You’ll want the War Games book for that. You can get a physical copy or a digital one. Personally, I like the Web App for this step.
From there it’s time to explore and expand. You can add plastic terrain to your collection. There’s also the first major expansion with Rise of the Banished. Perfect for anyone looking to add more Elites to your forces.
And again, in October is the ODST expansion Feet First into Hell. That’s up for pre-order now. It’s adding new ODST Troopers and more options for you to use in your games.

So Many Bundles For Halo: Flashpoint
Right now Mantic Games also has a BUNCH of bundle deals for Halo: Flashpoint. They vary in price and come with bonuses and extras. But here’s the thing: There’s no wrong answer here. The bundles are just better deals to get you into the game. No tricks, no sneaky packaging things — it’s all WYSIWYG. If you’re looking to just go for it all and hard commit to Halo: Flashpoint then yeah, the bundles are fantastic for that.
The one piece of advice I’d give about the bundles is just check the shipping dates. If the bundle has the Feet First into Hell box, it’s not going to ship until October 2025.
So far I’ve been liking the fast-paced games of Halo: Flashpoint. It’s really easy to get into and it does a very good job of capturing the feel of halcyon days of playing Halo on the couch with friends. And yeah, there’s definitely some rose-tinted nostalgia there for me. But that doesn’t mean that Halo: Flashpoint isn’t a really good game. It’s based of the Deadzone rules which, if you’re liking Halo: Flashpoint, you should check out.
I also really like that you can set up a game on a counter or kitchen table. The play area is 2′ x 2′ so it doesn’t take up a ton of space. So what are you waiting for?! It’s time to give Halo: Flashpoint a try.
I mean the minis in the Recon Edition Starter are Red and Blue. C’mon.
