Here’s 5 extra spicy strategem combos to supercharge your Leagues of Votann army from the brand new 40K codex.

The Leagues of Votann have five detachments to pick from in this book and they have some spicy stratagems to confound your opponent with.  They range from some brutal damage tricks to some powerful defensive options.  I really like how the Yield points work within the abilities to supercharge a reaction.  I like how the overall army rules just count for how many you have and then you get to spend them as needed during the game.  Lets look at the five top stratagems I like and how they can be a powerful tool in your army of Space Dwarves looking to grab your objectives.

Votann Death Blossom!

Detachment – Needgaard Oathband
Stratagem – Ancestral Sentence – 1CP
Datasheet – Any unit that has a ton of shooting like the Brokhyr Thunderkin

This lets you give a unit in the shooting phase Sustained Hits 1 or if you spend 3 Yield Points the unit gains Sustained Hits 2.  This is a simple set up and easy to see how this can make a for a powerful interaction and a way you can wipe out the enemy units.  I just like how simple it is.

Prospecting Two-step

Detachment – Persecution Prospect
Stratagem – Claimstaker Reflex – 1CP
Datasheet – Hernkyn Yaegirs

This allows you to make a reactive move if your opponent moves within 9″.  It does not work on Vehicles or Artillery but any other option can make a d6 move.  If you burn 2 Yield Points you can move a flat 6″ which feels like a pretty awesome reaction.  I know I have used my reaction moves to make charges harder or at the very least block off the enemy from a charge if needed.  Or you can just get to that objective that you need to score.

Divin’ Dwarves

Detachment – Delve Assault Shift
Stratagem – Augmented Assault – 1CP
Datasheet – Cthonian Beserks duh!

This detachment lets you take your Cthonian Beserks as Battleline units as well as grant them deep strike.  This specific stratagem lets the unit Advance and Charge as its default setup.  If you spend up to 2 Yield Points the unit gets +X inches to their movement based on how many Yield Points you spent.  This can let that unit become a very fast and brutal little close combat bullet of death.

Land Train THIS!

Detachment – Brandfast Oathband
Stratagem – Bastion Running – 1CP
Datasheet – Hekaton Land Fortress

Here we have the common ignore all terrain features for your Hekaton Land Fortresses.  You know what those big buses hate?  Terrain that is getting in the way.  This allows them to Koolaid man thru that pesky wall and dump out their mean little Space Dwarves into your line.  I hear that throwing out a bunch of shooting Dwarves is something people don’t like to see when playing Leagues of Votann.

“By Your Command”

Detachment – Hearthfyre Arsenal
Stratagem – Cogitated Need – 1CP
Datasheet – Ironkin Steeljacks

Your Ironkin Steeljacks get to make a normal move at the end of your opponents Movement phase.  This can let you go get an objective, get out of site after shooting, or just get in the way if needed.  I love any option that lets you move outside of your movement phase.  This game is won on moving and having more options to get somewhere can win you the game.  Also I just love the chance to go hide behind some terrain if needed.
