Next week, Miao Ying the Storm Dragon roars into the Old World; Legions Imperialis launches enough tanks for a whole armored detachment.

Alright friends, it’s time for the Old World to really get tempestuous. Next week’s pre-orders include a whole new codex for the Storm Dragon of Cathay: Miao Ying. Alongside the Storm Dragon, a number of Jade Warriors, Lancers, and more. But that’s not all, in the epic scale grim darkness of the distant future are so many little tanks! All this, next week!

Cathay’s Storm Dragons

Miao Ying the Storm Dragon and Grand Cathay both made a huge splash in Total War: Warhammer 3, where they held the forces of Chaos at bay against a surprisingly penetrable shield wall known as the Great Bastion (depending on how you played, but man, Chaos got through every time). However, now you can play them on the tabletop. And it all kicks off with a new codex that details the Cathayan forces, in particular those that serve under the Storm Dragon, Miao Ying. You’ll find rules for an Army of Infamy, as well as rules for new magic items, terrain generation, and multiplayer games.

Of course, what’s the point of teasing the Storm Dragon without releasing Miao Ying herself. And what a miniature set she is. The Storm Dragon is the ruler of Northern Cathay, appointed by the Celestial Dragon himself. She comes in two forms: human form, or dragon form. Presumably both will have their advantages and disadvantages, but it’s hard not to think why you wouldn’t just be dragon all the time.

Accompanying Miao Ying are legions of loyal Cathay Soldiers, starting with the Jade Warriors. These are the core of the protectors of Grand Cathay. As such, they come in packs of 20, though this kit has command options enough for two units of 10. They can come with swords and shields or halberds as well.

The Jade Lancers, on the other hand, are heavy cavalry pulled from experienced riders used to punching through formation and absolutely devastating whoever they come into contact with. This kit gives you ten lancers, with enough command options to build two units of five.

Of course, Cathay brings heavy firepower to battle as well. And from the Nan-Gau, they bring a Grand Cannon or a Fire Rain Rocket Battery. This kit builds two of either, and are accompanied by a crew and ogre mercenary.

Also the Preyton is available – unrelated to Grand Cathay. These beasts have been corrupted by Bray-Shamans, and now you can pick up one in Forge World Resin.

Legions Imperialis Tanks

Meanwhile, in the 41st Millennium, Legions Imperialis rolls out a new wave of updates in the form of Liber Strategia. This book encompasses updated rules from several core rulebooks, including The Great Slaghter, Devastation of Tallarn, and Ride of the Dark Mechanicum. With up-to-date detachments and Formations for your favorite armies, this book will keep your epic games current!

Accompanying the new update book are several armored kits, starting with the infamous Mastodon heavy assault transport. Each one is capable of carrying more than 40 Space Marines. And that alone would be devastating. But each Mastodon also carries a melta array, skyreaper battery, sponson mounted heavy flamers, and your choice of sponson mounted lascannons or heavy bolters.

For more dedicated vehicle destruction, though, you might want the Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer Squadron. These tanks adapt the Spartan chassis to an anti-armor roll, carrying a neutron laser battery that can scythe through even the heaviest armor.

The Typhon Heavy Siege tank, on the other hand, is a potent anti-encampment vehicle. The dreadhammer siege cannon makes them a nightmare against any fortification, and their speed means they can deploy rapidly wherever they’re needed.

The Vindicator is back in siege tank form, bringing its demolisher cannon to a kit of eight.

And the Whirlwind and Scorpius Missile Tank squadrons just go to show that sometimes you don’t even need to see your enemy to wipe them off the map.

All this, next week!
